What does Cotto have to do to beat Pac, and what does Pac have to do to beat Cotto?

My early preview of what both fighters have to do to win.

    Cotto:

Cotto has to use his shotgun jab, move to his left, and cover up well. Cotto can't be caught trying to exchange, or sitting back letting Pac dictate the pace. Pac's right hook to the head or body has gotten better, but it's his least effective punch-even though they are still effective shots meaning i'd rather be hit by those shots than the straight left.

Muhammad Ali said it best, when you are stopped by a body shot, you have not fully trained for a fight. Being hurt to the body is one thing, but being stopped with a body shot is something else. Train the body harder than anything, and don't worry too much about how much sparring you have to get in, and you'll be ok. Cotto has to train, but not over train or worry about diet. Cotto has to be normal, and make sure he is eating the right foods, and not weight losing foods that leave you with no energy.

    Pac:

Pac has to just be Pac. Keep the hands moving, use the new found jab instead of pawing, and go to Cotto's body and head, and move to his left. Pac has to render Cotto's left hook useless, and not get trapped in the corner. Pac loves to use the big left, right hook combo which is what Edwin Valero loves to use. This combo comes so fast, that opponents cover up, and while they cover up, PAc can land a good body shot before moving away.

Cotto covers up well, but he has been hurt to the head when he has been hurt to the body FIRST. Both PAc and Cotto have to put in body work, but PAc is faster than Cotto so he can use his combos in this fight, move, and relax, and start this process all over again to wear Cotto down. Cotto had great recovery powers in the past so he will need them in this fight.

I'm sure Cotto won't worry about his weight, considering he has to weigh in ONE POUND lower than he did for Clottey. Thus, he can train exactly the same way he did for Clottey, and visit the bathroom before he hits the scales, and he's home and dry!

In short, the key for Cotto is to use his jab, cut off the ring, force Pac to move backwards, then unload bodyshots.

The key for Pacquiao is to use his footwork and lateral movement, keep the fight in the centre of the ring, and utilize lightning fast in-out attacks.

I am confident Pac will win by stoppage in the last third of the fight.

Both fighters can be hurt to the body(anyone can of course lol), and watching both fighters in the past-- when you are supposed to hide your pain, both do not visibly hide it well, but both have survived in their biggest fights while being hurt to the body.

Cotto has to be able to disrupt Pacquiao's timing and in and out movement, which is why his jab is huge in this fight. If he abandons it, I can't see him winning. I'd say he should fight Pacquiao the general way he fought Judah - pressure behind his jab, body punching, high workrate, being very physical in close to wear down a smaller man.

Pacquiao needs to use his faster feet to punch off of angles and he should use more uppercuts than he normally does...but he has to be careful about getting countered himself because Cotto is the best counterpuncher he's fought since JMM (though he's no where near than level as a counterpuncher).

Cotto has to be very patient and instead of using his jab as a power punch or as a left hook, he should just used it to set up his right hand which having watched some footage is a good punch but underused. He should not take the fight to Manny right off the bat but rather let Manny get off first and then throw a quick jab with a big right behind it and chase him down with a flurry. Then if Pac is cornered against the ropes that is the only time Cotto should throw body shots or else he will get caught hitting air.

Pac needs to use alot of feints and try to get Cotto to either reach in or get on the defensive. He can throw the lead left and move to the side like he did so well against Oscar or just let his hands go and put Cotto on the defensive. Cotto is not really a counterpuncher and he doesn't really throw punches when he is on the defensive. Pac needs to stay active, keep moving, get in, get out, and use his left hand alot.

I don't agree with what you say Cotto has to do, but what you said Pac has to do is about right.

This is very simple and can be put even in a more simple way : Pacquiao has everything but real welterweight strength to beat Cotto at this moment and all he would have to do is to be excellent in terms of ring generalship ( footwork), timing and commitment when blazing forward with accurate combos. Cotto just needs to make his punching power be felt so that he can be the aggressor and have Pacquiao fighting at will, running risks of taking some to blast his opponent with his arsenal... How is Cotto gonna hit Pac? Maybe he can work on a faster leading left hook or a more snappy left jab... How can Pac make Cotto hit thin air and be defenseless on the counter-move? Maybe Pac can fight at a even harder pace and move in/move out like he's the best athlete ever to have stepped on the same ring Cotto ever was.

Cotto will train to cut the ring off, and Pac will train to move, and keep off the ropes. This is a great tactical fight, but I have a feeling Pac will force the fight. When I say that, I mean Pac will be moving and throwing the majority of the shots in this fight. Cotto's defense in this fight will be big. How well does Cotto take a shot? Imo Cotto takes a good shot.

Cotto just has to do what he does best.
Use his movement & jab, Try & Avoid flush uppercuts & take open shot's when he has them.
    (Don't hesitate)

Follow the blueprint JMM laid down, Except the getting knocked down part.
If Pac comes out to destroy like most want to believe, Cotto will be at his best.
I truly believe MC's superior skillset will show-up that night.

    Let's see how Pac absorb's Cotto's best?
(That's still a question that has yet to be answered during Pac's weight rise)

Cotto has to find a good trainer, pay off his uncle so it won't be a distraction, fly in judges from NYC, and poison Manny's food.

Pac, all he has to do is put on a margarito mask. Should be enough to F with Cotto's brain. put in a right hook to the face. Left. wash rinse repeat.
