How are British fighters viewed?

If I'm writing them off then I wouldn't mention them nor participate in this thread, I mention those guys because those are the best in England right now. Ricky Hatton is definitely up there but can be pushed aside since we don't know if he plans to continue or not.

Haye is already a star, I'll tell you that much but needs to cover up what happened recently after all the talk. You talk so much then end up in a position like that only to turn down ANOTHER fight with the older Klitschko then of course people will start to overlook you till you do something big in the ring. So far Ruiz seems to be the one taking the Valuev fight instead which leaves Haye with nothing. Haye should shoot for Povetin, Arreola, Toney or anyone else. A win over any of those should put him back on the
"map" so to speak as talking will do nothing for him anymore.

I'm not calling off Khan either, he made the smart decision picking Roach and Roach can take him far, though Roach isn't there to improve certain physical weaknesses like punch resistance. About being a star, I think this is the first "successful" British fighter who the British people seem to dislike. I've never seen any other fighter fighting for England disliked as much as this guy, I mean you know the British, they're top class supporters when it comes to their guys. Do you honestly think people will travel to see Khan fight certain top fighters like they did for Hatton?, I sure as hell don't think so. The guy is hated for being delusional and talking trash everyone knows he can't cash. At 5 pro fights he used to call out Mayweather for a 4 rounder . Now he's calling out a man who personally went to him after he got iced in laughable fashion under a damn minute with two knockdowns in Hatton and calling him out for a fight when Hatton is down. I mean when he was down Hatton sent him a personal message telling him "Don't worry, if I got hit with that I would have been iced too" to make him feel better, yet when Hatton loses he responds by calling him out. I used to be a fan but now can understand why people dislike him and he's not doing anything to change anyone's opinion. Watch out for future opponent's KO ratios and if he does fight someone decent watch how the referee will be overprotecting him.

as far as how british fighters are viewed.....well...let's put it this way....

According to the knowledgable and unbiased...they're considered 2nd rate at best.

There's no way in hell anyone would consider Lewis and Calzaghe 2nd rate.

 

You don't get it...every once in a long while...they produce a 1st rater...

but according to The History of Boxing....british fighters are generally 2nd rate...AT BEST.

 

We put on a very good showing in the amateurs. I believe we came 2nd to Cuba in Beijing, not 100% sure on that.

Say what you like about the pro's, but amateur boxing still matters.

 

i would probably put uk as maybe 4th or 5th best boxing program in the world. i am speaking on where they stand now, i am not taking its history into acct. there are a lot of new talent pools that are starting to emerge that may knock the brits down some in the future.

 

Sad but true, at least they don't give up and keep providing. I mean no one can compete with the support the British give their athletes. You would think if Mayweather was British rather than get laughable articles about him ducking tomato can quality fighters like Margarito they would appreciate his presence and position. The British know how to appreciate their athletes regardless of losses and limitations, unlike other places that **** on their guys.

 

there really is no objective way to measure nations, just as there is no objective way to measure fighters. i guess you could count the number of champions but that is hardly an accurate indicator.
