before max was involved in ring tragedy i have read he was a serious dude , so not having seen him before tragedy i would imagine it would depend on which baer it was faceing shavers.
I think Baer has the chin and stamina to survive Shavers' early onslaught and then knock him out, as Stander, Quarry, Lyle, and Cobb did.
It's really a flip of the coin of who lands big first. But I'll go with Baer due to his superior chin and stamina. Shavers hit harder (I think he hit harder than anyone) and could get through since Baer had a rather bad defense. Still, going with Baer.
More like proved that it wasn't. Louis hit Baer on the chin with 250 punches inside four rounds and Baer still had to take a knee to get himself counted out. Now Shavers might hit as hard as Louis but he is nowhere near to him as a composite puncher or finisher.
I liked watching Shavers fight, but I can't come up with a scenario where Shavers would beat Baer. I would bet on Max.
Hard chin almost always outlast hard punch..... and given that Shavers wasn't exactly durable himself, nor a defensive wizard, i think Baer will get the win within 6 rounds.
Janitor Shavers didnt hit as hard as Joe Louis? You know this because of? Joe Louis never iced world class true heavyweights. It took him 13 rounds to knock out Billy Conn. There is no way Louis punched harder than Shavers, Foreman, Bowe, Lewis ect ect ect. Any way Max Baer was unskilled and slow. Shavers would take him out even though I think Shavers is overrated
Janitor did not say that Shavers did not hit as hard as Louis,he said he was not as composite a puncher ,or finisher ,that is not the same thing ,and I would agree with him.
