I personally thought he was nothing more than average in the the Kotelnik fight, he won basically by having faster hands, which I know is a major weapon to have in boxing, but it was fast hands with little substance.

Towards the later rounds of the fight alot of his punched became sloppy and were thrown as just arm punches. He is a large guy for the weight, and if he does have power, he will rarely utilise it against the top heavy hitters, because he knows he want dare plant his feet and risk taking one in order to generate his own power shot, he doesnt yet have the skill to crate a real power shot while on the move or the back foot like Hamed could.

Imo he is a lighter version of Joe Calzaghe.

A world champion, he is a world champion in the current format it is undeniable. I wouldn't say Kotelnik was a weak champion either, he's been competitive with some of the best fighters at 140lbs. It is true to say Khan held a huge stylistic advantage over him, since Kotelnik is a counterpuncher that was forced to lead due to Khan's athletic talents.

As for his future prospects, I can't see him unifying a division. A multiple time world champion probably, but I don't see him ever cleaning house.

Khan will fall under the same curse that Hearns did due to his weak chin. He will become a good champion, but not a juggernaut of a 130 lb Floyd or Pacquiao.

P.S. No direct diss to Hearns, he won titles in 6 divisions and fought and beat stiff comp. I don't see Khan having anywhere close to such accomplishments while falling short against top comp due to his punch resistance.

:patsch they've already tried to make that fight without even a strap on the line, witter admitted that he refused the offer and i think khan will definitely fight nate or bradley, so out goes that arguement

Decent fighter who has managed to get a belt. There are better fighters at 140 though.

God was cruel when he made Khan, He gave him exceptional boxing ability..... but limited punch resistance. On top of that, He puts him amongst a weight class which is deep in exciting and gutsy fighters.

How successful he’ll be depends entirely on the way he is managed, and his capacity to improve his defence. Because despite his impressive showing at 140 against Kotelnik, I personally still think he’ll struggle to deal with power shots from the likes Ortiz and Maidana. He really needs to be more self-protective in his ring generalship and when he covers up, because at the moment I don’t like the way he hunches and hides behind his gloves (almost blinding himself) from an assault.

So my current consensus of Amir Khan of a fighter is this.....his array of attacking punches has the potential to beat anyone in the world (when he hits his peak), and if this is coupled with an impenetrable defence...he’ll be a huge success and a definite P4P contender.

Khan has a lot of talented that one is a given and a lot of things going for him.

Firsly look at how he responded to his 1st loss, now he has a nice cushy contract with warren, he could have sat about the UK continue to **** up his career by not concentrating on his boxing and living the millionaire celebrity lifestyle like he was. Instead he moved out of the spolight and has employed one of the best trainers in the business, that proves to me he wants to go far in boxing and has the will and heart for it.

He has always had an impressive offensive arsenal, he has perhaps the fastest hands in boxing, likes letting them go in flashy combinations (not massive punching combnations but combinations that sway judges)., he has a good jab and decent power, not a 1 punch knock out artist by any means but enough power to get people respet. Also since his work with roach the defensive side of his game has improved, keeps his hands high and makes sure they stay that way, also his control of range now is very impressive. The thing that impressed me most against koltinik was his footwork and footspeed, it was great, got himself into range lets his shots go and then gone before return fire could come his way.

HOWEVER with all of these pros i have highlighted in khan game he has one obvious and massive weakness, we all know that but his chin is crap, now he did manage to take some decent shots from kotelnik without any problems, this could indicate his chin has improved with age and that he was cutting to much weight at 135 like has been suggested by his camp that his chin was poor, it is possible for a chin to improve, look at ezzard charles early career to see that, or the dfference between cotto's at 140 and 147

We are not going to know the answer to the chin question conclusively till he faces a maidana type fighter and takes some shots, if he can get through that your looking at a top level fighter, if not well he won't go much further

until i see him beat a solid fighter who can punch (i.e. maidana/ortiz/torres/holt) i can't go beyond weak champion. i still have no idea how he's gonna deal with guys like that.

Could reign for a while, maybe unify, but will not be no.1 in the division or p4p top 10.
