I don't really know where you get this

seems to me that you are just repeating like a parrot what other people say without actually verifying if it is true or not....

When the fight was anounced and it was confirmed that it was going to be at a catchweight people on this board complained....maybe people did not complain as much as they are complaining now, but they complained none the less.

I remember very well the threads where people were talking about it.... people did not only complained, people talked really bad about DLH..... people even brought back DLH vs Sturm fight saying that was a robbery (I personally think that Hoya lost that fight, but that's another story), and that everything was prepared (for DLH) so the so called mega fight between Hoya and BH became reality.

The main reason why people stopped talking was because pretty much everybody knew that BH was not going to suffer at all by losing a couple of pounds because he was a gym rat and therefore he was (has been) always in shape.... so coming down a couple of pounds was not a big deal for him....

Did you know that Hoya was hated at the point that many people used to buy his PPV fights just to see him lose??? Do you really think that people who hated him were going to let that go by without saying a word?????

Please, don't fool yourself..... people did talk about the catchweight at that time.....

If you are a little guy and you have fought at the WW limit of 147 before with no problem, why do you want to fight a WW champion at a catchweight?
    Probably for these reasons
-You want the WW champ weakend
-You want the advantage of having your full strength and you are gambling that the catchweight will negatively affect your opponent, hence why have it at all.
-You want an easy title, against a weight drained opponent or suboptimal opponent.

Actually no. People talked all types of **** for that pretty much saying that Oscar was trying to give himself an unfair advantage by draniing bhop. If there is one guy on this board that is more hated than manny, it's oscar.

The contract is finally signed - both fighters agreed to the weight. Why in the hell are you all still arguing about this?

cotto was 146 for clottey, you have to assume that is therefore his optimal weightsince he could have weighed more, pac weighed in at 142 for the oscar fight, therefore have to assume that is his optimal weight since he could have gone higher.

145 seems pretty reasonable between 142 and 146.

In terms of creating as fair a fight as possible i have no problem with this, no one had a problem with pavlik meeting hopkins at 170 and look how that paned out (i think part of the reason for not liking the catch weight is because pac is so good that people want him to try to make things doubly hard for himself).
    BUT
regardless of if the fight is fair or not, it cannot be called a 147 title fight unless it at 147, otherwise the titles mean nothing. If a welter had enough money to entice vitali down to 160 and ko'd him it wouldn't be a heavyweight fight (extreme case i know, and couldn't be done).

BASICALLY: the fight seems fair, but money shouldn't bend the rules of world championship fights, there's already too much of that in the form of us getting different governing bodies and warren and co giving us bum championship fights, fighting championship fights at weights other than those on the belt would be the last straw in terms of credibility, the hopkins-dlh fight shouldn't have been for a middleweight title and pac-cotto shouldn't be for a welterweight title. the reason dlh was more accepted at the time is probably because of his sheer popularity that people wanted the fiht and wanted him to beat hopkins that they turned a blid eye.

    sorry for the long post.

absolutely, cotto will be cutting as much fat and excess as possible. those last two pounds will just be muscle he's draining and as has been said MANY times the last two is the hardest cause the body doesn't want to lose them. if cotto ballooned up to 190 he could shed 20 pounds easier than he could 2 pounds at 147 cause he isn't supposed to way that much, it's all fat. those 2 pounds are being lost when he's already at peak, lean muscular weight. the amount of effort to lose them will be too much and he'll be drained and fatigued for the fight
