As much as I want Rogan to win on October 9th, I wouldn't be too hard on Sexton for trying to muster up some support among the Belfast public. It's not the first time a boxer used the sectarian divide in the north of Ireland to further his cause. When Jim Watt defended his world title against Charlie Nash, there was a lot of sectarian remarks aimed at Nash [a catholic from Derry] at the press conferences. Watt a fervent Rangers fan also used "old firm" rivalry to further snipe at Nash.Whether it was intention malice on Watt's part or a tactic to get under Nash's skin or simply just PR to sell the fight we will never know.

ardy im surprised at you of all people would seek to justify something like that and possibly even more surprised (and dissapointed) that a man of jim watts class would try to use those tactics as well

we all know over here it only takes one thing to light the touchpaper and then who knows what can happen

I think the lad made a mistake in what he did, but there is no point in raking over old coals. Forgive and forget, and enjoy the boxing.

I just hope Rogan's fury is genuine, and that he's not trying to sell the fight (which is working if that's what he's doing). In fact, when Sexton was named as his opponent the first time people were saying it was a "backwards step". A disgraceful refereeing decision, a heated press conference and now its the most hyped British rematch for a while. Its interesting, and I hope Rogan smashes Sexton's skull to bits.

As for the sectarian shite Sexton was trying, hopefully that will just stir up the crowd more (who were quite hostile in the first fight). Appleby admitted the crowd put him off against Lindsay so its up to the Belfast crowd to raise the roof and make Sexton **** his pants!!!!

Where is the evidence for this sectarian stuff Sexton was trying?? everyone seems dead keane on jumping on the band wagaon regardless, talk about hanging before trial. Its a helluva thing to accuse someone of if untrue and was unheard of until Rogan himself mentioned it at the press conference.

Cant imagine Rogan would make it up obviously but Sexton does not strike me as being quite that stupid to try something like this either. Rogan seemed hell bent on winding himself up at the press conference rgardless.

Keep religion out of sport. END OF

This just seems irrational to me, if there should be any hate at all it should be directed at Uncle Dave Parris :huh...the cabby will get beat up again, I hope

well dave parris deserves a mention aswel , hope he is not reffing the fight but sexton delibritley spit his gum sheild out , that for me in a boxing ring is the lowest of the low , its the highest of ***** moves and rogie should punish him good in the rematch for doing it

I was only 11 for the Watt-Nash fight and I can remember the ill will (I was too young to understand it though) because of that its probably the earliest UK fight I can remember in any great detail.

Without knowing what went on you'd look back at the fight now and see just a another title fight but the build up was pretty intense.
