I know that Holyfield garners somewhat more respect that Valuev for his past achievements, but I feel that due to this, plus the fact that he was so much smaller and people seem to dislike Nikolai due to his size, that many people have a skewed vision of what actually occured in the fight. If you could actually bring yourself to rewatch it would become clear that it was not a shutout like some people seem to believe.

The only thing that Holyfield proved was that he can run for an entire fight. He barely attempted to engage with Valuev, his work rate was utterly terrible (even Nikolai threw more) and he only landed a handful of noteworthy punches. In fact, if you care to count the punches, it turns out that Valuev landed more - as hard as that is to believe. I still think that it was a close fight and could be scored either way, but there is no way that it was a shut out, just an awful boring fight with such a low work rate from both fighters that most people should find it hard to justify even giving one round to either fighter.

Valuev has had close fights with other good HWs, if Haye won spectacularly then it should be obvious to any non-partisan fan of the sport that Haye should be given a lot of credit. If someone had said that Haye would fight Valuev in his second heavyweight fight then I think he would have recieved immense respect about a year ago...but due to the events with Wlad, people would hate Haye if he KOed Valuev, Wlad and Vitali all on the same night.

Haye should not make the mistake of frantically pressing for a KO against Valuev, just to look good and spectacular. It might be his demise later in the fight should Haye become exhausted.

The best Haye could do would be to conserve energy and simple shoot for a UD12. If he gets a safe chance to tag Valuev he can take it in the later rounds, but risking open trading from round 1 on would be plain stupid and an unnecessary risk.

Since his loss to Carl Thompson, Haye & Booth have become far more strategic in their approach to fights. Haye said recently that he'll be using the same strategy against Valuev as he was going to use against Wlad but with some small adjustments. It will be interesting to see what that is as most people seem to think he was going to rush Wlad.

No he doesn't ... a 40 something year old Holyfield beat him ... he's gumpy, lanky, and doesn't have a great chin.

Haye beating him wouldn't be that big of a deal ... i'm sure if it were possible Povetkin and Chambers would knock either Haye or Valuev off.

How did you come to that conclusion?

Cause he doesn't like Haye, I would guess. Let's not let the facts get in the way shall we.

He would deserve some respect, but you only become great in a division with some consistency. Wlad beat Chagaev who beat Valuev, Vitali beat Donald who got robbed against Valuev, so it's not like Haye would join their level if he beats Valuev.
