Cotto is a pretty smart guy.

He just got Team Pac to pay his WBO sanctioning fee's for him. I bet he will buy himself something nice with that scrap.

yea sure its all negotation. I alwyas thought that at the end of the day the title would be on the line but after that interview where Cotto lied to the Puerto Rican people I had my doubts.

Pac is making 8 figures for this fight. A few hundred thousand is chump change to him. Maybe Pac should pay Cotto's legal fees for his court case against his uncle, seeing is how Cotto is having money problems and can't even afford to pay his sanctioning fees.

Face it though win or lose Pac's legacy is 10x greater than Cotto's ever will be. What are the odds Cotto will ever even challenge for a title in a 4th weight class let alone a 7th?

I can't believe the WBO would sanction the fight for the belt at 145. What happens if Manny wins and a welterweight (e.g. Mosley) wants to challenge him for the WBO belt?

Manny could chose to make him fight at 145, which would make a mockery of the weight class system and the belt itself.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both fighters. But if Manny wants the WELTERWEIGHT belt, he should fight at 147. If the fight is at 145, should be no belt.

your logic fails. Just cause this fight is at 145 desn't mean that Manny will always be allowed to defend his belt at 145. I don't see how you came to that conclusion.

Cotto already accepted the catchweight of 145. Noone put a gun to his head and forced him to. If he doesn't want to defend his title at 145 then he can just back down from the fight. But if you are the WW champion and agree to a fight at a weight below the WW limit, then you should defend your title, unless your opponent is unranked or doesn't want to pay the sanctioning fee.

The fight should go ahead by all means for respect, money and fame at 145, just not the belt.

What if Manny was the belt holder (which he may end up being)? Should he be able to say to Cotto or Mosley "if you want the belt, come down to 145 or 143"? Or should he have to defend the belt at 147?

eventually he would have to defend his belt at 147 or he would be stripped. Unless his opponent willfully agrees to come down in weight in which case there's nothing wrong with it.

noone put a gun to Cotto's head and forced him to defend his title at 145. He could have gone on and defended it against Antonin Decarie at 147 if he wanted to. Wouldn't that have been just great for his legacy. Cotto agreed to 145, it was even him who asked for it.

I suppose they'd make him defend at 147 in his mandatory defences wouldn't they?
