He was American, hyped and his fans (the whole internet) were completely delusional.

No one knew Calzaghe at the time.....Calzaghe was only regarded as an ELITE fighter post LACY!!

3 YEARS at the top is not enough to warrant the term "Legend, ATG"

He a excellent champion who was good at the level he faught.

I have to say even when I saw lacy i thought calzaghe was gonna get it....I remember I was at work and I was getting ready for my shift the fight started and I was just taken away by the schooling lacy got....poor guy...... Watch him return to his seat after a few rounds he looked totally dejected and bamboozled

i'd seen a bunch of lacy's fights whereas i'd only seen 1 calzaghe fight, against byron mitchell when he was staggered and hurt bad, and i was like lacy is gonna decapitate this guy

i bet at least a couple hundo on lacy in the range of -160 to -180 and so did all my friends who were boxing fans it seemed like a lock lol

    then i watched the fight
and what i saw was obscene

i think he means that Lacy was grossly overrated.. just the way some people overrate Tyson so much.. but still, Lacy is nothing next to Mike

Calzaghe didn't really have all that many people in the UK who thought he was any good honestly.

Lacy was looked at as a serious opponent for Joe. Calzaghe was also looked at as a fighter who's old and past it after accomplishing "nothing" according to many. Not many knew much about Calzaghe either not his insane ability in the ring, I don't think even Lacy knew what he was going to run into.

Joe just shocked everyone, everyone counted him out(including myself) and thought he's a has been who never was anything anyway. People saw it the same way when he was going in against Kessler.

Joe had struggled against Reid, and his last two fights he had looked a bit rusty.

I didnt count out Joe, Sheika told us all we needed to know about Jeff, the way you beat him is combonation punching and keep turning him and thats exactly what Sheika and Joe did.

Maybe on US TV. Watch Kessler-Beyer for a one sided unification bout.

I agree, Lacy only became a hype job after he was sent packing back to the US with his tail between his legs, before that he was the next big thing.
