You criticize my post and then go on to mention Jet Li, Chuck Norris, and a strongman contestant as legitimate arguments. Priceless.
This is some powerfully stupid stuff. Who has Jet li ever fought? Who has Bruce Le every fought? Chuck Norris is at least a world champ in karate, but thats it. Pudz? Please, he can't grapple for ****, Marcelo Garcia chokes him out in 5 min flat.
I think Karelin is the greatest sport combatant caught on film and its not even close. Lesnars exploits only reinforces my belief that had Karelin choose this field (MMA) He would have dominated as long as he wanted.
The ground control skills that Lesnar displays are different to the skills Karelin displayed. Anyway, to suggest that a guy who has never fought in MMA would dominate MMA with Fedor in it does not compute. Fedor getting dominated by anybody does not compute.
If it means greatest fighter in a a sport competition which really are the only ones caught on film and Wrestling is a combat sport, then Karelin is the greatest fighter caught on film. This is what I meant. The thread starter didnt specify Vale Tudo or MMA. As for H2H its impossible to compare without assumptions. The greatest hand combatant I have ever seen on film and supported by dominance on paper, far and away Alexander Karelin
"When Li was eight his talent for wushu was noticed at a summer course at school, and he began his practice there. Li participated in the sport of wushu in the non-sparring event. He began his wushu on the Beijing Wushu Team, an athletic group organized to perform martial arts forms during the All China Games. As a member of the team, he received wushu training and went on to win fifteen gold medals and one silver medal in Chinese wushu championships. According to Li, once, as a child, when the Chinese National Wushu Team went to perform for President Richard Nixon in the United States, he was asked by Nixon to be his personal bodyguard. Li replied, "I don't want to protect any individual. When I grow up, I want to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen!" which earned him much respect in his homeland." As for "Pudz" ...WTF are you talking about? You've ever seen this man grapple? NO. Actually this man is quite flexible, used to do martial arts (he actually has a vid up on youtube he said he quit cuz he didn't like getting hit), and as UFC champion NO SKILL Brock Lesnar has shown us....Power means a lot. You'd honestly be so blind to bet against a 5'10 300 pound with a bodybuilder physicue against say....your average 200 pounders in MMA? I don't want to hear Bob Sapp as an example either...Everybody knows this guy really aint that strong, and is the suckiest big man on the planet. Not saying all strongmen would be great at grappling (many would suck), but I wouldn't bet on any 200 pound man trying to grab them, and take them down. People are just so blind when it comes to MMA vs anything. MMA vs boxing...Boxers win on there feet. MMA fighter vs a much bigger powerful man...*cough* frank mir vs Lesnar *cough*. I don't want to hear Lesnar's wrestling background because I have not seen any of it! That's the worst display of a wrestling background I've ever seen...Rush in, tackle somebody, hit them on top of the head. that's an NCAA champion right there.... I'm 5'6 170...I bet if any 130 pounder grabbed me I bet I could slam them to the ground, put a headlock on them, and punch them on top of the head, and yet I'm not a NCAA champion
:roflWell there ya go folks, that proves it. Jet Li is the man to beat Fedor. Lesnar has excellent top control and body control in general. He's also extremely fast for a big man and a lot taller than Pudzianowski. He's also much more versed in submissions than he used to be. His dominant size, strength, and positioning on the ground give opponents few opportunities for subs, anyway. Mainly though, yes, it is his freakish physical tools that allow him to do what he does. It's pretty much unfair. Pudz has the physical attributes, but lacks the skills to compete at the top level at this stage. Sapp is extremely strong, he just has hardly any skills. His lack of speed (due to his mass) also hurts him. Pudz seems a lot more agile, though. I think he could fare better than Sapp in MMA. OK, then they'd just pick them apart on their feet, and if the fight went to the ground they'd probably easily catch the strong man in a submission, considering they'd have no clue what submission even is or what the set-up for it looks like. They'd get caught every time. Trust me, you can catch anyone in a submission if they don't even know what you're doing, pretty much regardless of their physical advantages. In a boxing match, yes, with ease. Not sure about a boxer beating an MMA fighter in an all standup fight though (the top MMA fighters anyway). A guy like Anderson Silva would disect a boxer with leg kicks, knees, elbows, and brutal use of the 8 appendages that boxers aren't used to or capable of combating. There've been many examples of boxers entering orgs like K-1 and being utterly outclassed because of their lack of experience in those types of fights. They're not accustomed to being put in a Muay Thai plum and having knees shot at their ribs and face, and not being able to get out. You obviously weren't paying attention when he pinned Mir's arms down, rendering him helpless on the ground, while he pumped big, heavy fists into his face. His control was other-wordly. Yes, due to his physical advantages, but you have to have skill in order to be able to utilize those advantages, which Lesnar obviously did. How can you write off his wrestling pedigree when you just admitted you've seen none of it? Lesnar is a physical phenom, but he has (and continues to rapidly gain) the skills to back it up. I'm 6'1, 170 and I'd say you're delusional if you believe that.
I'm not saying any of these guys beat Fedor. Honestly in the octagon somebody like Fedor should beat them, but nobody is a world beater. Plus, street fighting is different from MMA. and No..I'm not saying any strongman wins any MMA fights. I'm just saying if your 200 pounds, and you try to LOCK UP with a 300 pound strong man...Not go for his legs, not use your speed, or anything you will lose. SIMPLE. Somebody like Bruce Lee and JKD would be one of the most beneficial things in a street fight anyways. Gouge eyes, go for there throat, groin kicks, kicks to the knee, etc. You got one man wanting to wrestle in a street fight...You got the other with the attitude he's going to disable the other one for life....Who you going to bet on? Somebody puts you in a hold, and you just stick your fingers in there eyeballs, or grab there jewels I bet most people let go. Yeah...That's dirty, but were talking about the street aren't we? Best fighter caught on film? The best fighter would probably be the dirtiest...The title needs to be more precise.
Why couldn't I? I weigh 170, and bench 300. I also box, do martial arts, and have done a little MMA. The MMA gym I used to go to had some MMA fighters over there (who had actual fights), and anybody my size I could physichally overpower along with some guys that are bigger than me. They knew holds...I knew nothing, and just held them down, or grabbed an arm/ leg, and torqed. I'm not saying no 130 pounder couldn't sub me...I'm just saying most guys I outweigh by so much aren't going to overpower me. I'm not delusional...If you guys outweigh somebody by 40 pounds, and your much stronger than most of them I'd hope you guys would have enough confidence to say you beat most guys that size at least at wrestling around, or you seriously need to believe in yourself a little more...
