Cotto vs Clottey: Bring your scorecards

    I hear you. It's just that sometimes in a fight, one guy is dominant when winning rounds and the other one wins close rounds. Imo this is what happened in this fight, hence the higher number of punches landed by Clottey.

    The funny thing is, if Clottey had been a little more aggressive and threw more punches in the last round, he would have won the fight in many people's minds and I'm refering to people who scored it for Cotto. Notice that many people think that Cotto won by one point. Even guys who scored it for Clottey gave Cotto the last round. So Clottey just ****ed up by letting that round slip away from him, imo.

    Yes, that score was outrageous. I remember Kellerman's rant, it reminded me of a similar one he had right after the DLH/Mayweather fight. I think he was right both times.

    6 rounds each is how I saw it with the KD making the difference, 7 rounds to 5 is also borderline acceptable. But anything beyond that is laughable.

    I had it 114-113 for Clottey but there was 3 real close rounds that could have went either way I forgot which rounds the were so I can see it for Cotto too. Close fight..

    It was close, but Cotto just took it. On a rescore I think I might have had Clottey, but Cotto won that fight as far as I'm concerned. Again close, but I was pleased with the official outcome. I'll post my scorecard if I can find it.

    I saw that fight on every rerun they did for the next 2 days and ALWAYS gave the fight to Cotto with @ least 2 pts advantage.... and that's not counting rd. 6 , which some people can argue it was won by 2 pts. for Cotto!! :yep :hey

    When I first saw it I had Cotto by 114-113 meaning all he had to do was win the last round.

    The second time I saw it I had it 114-113 for Clottey meaning I gave him one more of those close rounds I had initially gave Cotto the edge in.

    Razor thin fight. A draw would've been fair taking into account different people's perspectives.

    Clottey should have thrown more punches. He gave it away as I saw it. Definitely had the opportunity to win the fight, he just didn't. That said, I have no problem with someone scoring it for him. I'll have to find my scorecard.

    Very good post.

    I felt the official scoring was fair, in the sense that Clottey was the challenger, he knew it was a close fight coming into the 12th, yet all he did in the last round (a round that could very well determine the outcome, he should know that) was chasing Cotto without punching. Imo a challenger has to do more to get the title from the champion.

    Actually, i believe Clottey threw less punches but landed more. So he was more accurate. Besides, for a peek a boo fighter, the compubox numbers can be a detriment against you as the punches your opponent throws at you are going to land somewhere and that might mislead judges also. They might hit arm and gloves but it still has some effect as it still lands. I didn't see Cotto landing the harder, cleaner shots. That was Clottey.

    114-113 either way is really the only score you could objectively achieve.
