Tito would break Cotto's face & psyche, sad reality.
Would be a great fight in the early rounds, though!

I think its clear cotto is merely a solid fighter - not a great one along the lines of a DLH or Tito. I'd bet my bottom dollar he never reaches ATG level, but that's not to say he hasn't had a career to be proud of.

Beat Pac, Margo rematch convincingly (by KO is better...or rematch Mosley), and Mayweather.

3 former and curent p4p kings (2 if he rematches Margo instead and avenges his ONLY loss)...something Tito hasn't done.

Tito did a lot of division hoping, but his best wins aren't really GREAT.

IMHO Cotto's win over Mosley is better than Tito's win over DLH.

Which leaves Tito with KO wins over Joppy, Vargas and Mayorga.

The aforementioned wins would surpass those BY FAR!

    good post.

however, i think everyone here gets too caught up with this all-time **** that they try to argue some ludicrous things.

so many of our fav. fighters won't break the t100, nevermind t50.
That's no reason to love them less!

just accept reality and be. It doesn't even matter that much!
Did they entertain you? Did they make the hairs on the back of your neck stand-up in awe? Did they make you smile? Did they make you cry or feel down when they lost? Did they let you see inside their heart? Did they show you what any man is capable of on any given day?

This is what it's really about, being a fan of any boxer.

JMP then i am curious... If Cotto goes on to indeed beat Pac, Mayweather, Mosley again, and avenge his loss to Margarito in impressive fashion... what has tito done that is greater then

    Beating Mayweather
    Beating Pac
    Beating Mosley twice
Avenging the only loss of his career

what did tito do that to you is better then this? what are titos top 4 wins if you dont mind?

beating FLOYD would be huge.... but I'm sorry, this has been a long-term myth that Cotto has the tools to beat Floyd.

Not inc. PW, 3 men with the best chance of beating Floyd, imo:

    - Pacquiao (can surprise him with his speed & power... n disturb Floyd all night outta his southpaw stance -- wouldn't surprise me if Manny edged Floyd in their first fight due to Floyd's arrogance)

    - Mosley (speed, power & experience)

    - Marquez (Romanza Boxing techniiiiiiiiiique, baby)

If he goes on to beat Pac, Mosley, PBF, and Margo, then I'd be willing to call him a great fighter. But it hasn't happened yet and his last fight, to me at least, showed that he's a really good fighter, but not great. Because Clottey's the type of guy who can give a lot of guys problems, but is far from a true great.

Those wins might surpass anything tito has done (in addition to Cotto's resume at the moment)....but tito has the close win over DLH, KO over Vargas, KO over Mayorga, win over a shot whitaker, and KO wins over blocker, campas, and joppy.

I don't think it will happen, but i'm still a cotto fan regardless.

    Exactly....

I am truly baffled as to how Cotto cant surpass Tito.... i think people are having that nostalgia effect with tito, who was INDEED a great fighter, who ended his fights greatly, but that doesnt erase the fact that Cotto can (unlikely? perhaps... but thats not the point of this thread) surpass him

Being the first to beat Floyd Mayweather, and giving Pac the worst beating hes recieved since hes been an elite fighter, coupling with two wins over shane mosley and avenging his loss to Margarito, let alone all his solid solid wins..... i just dont see what tito did that was so great that would put him above that.

:good Im arguing that it CAN happen, not that it will..... im simply refuting the position that cotto has no chance of passing tito, which indeed he does, imo. But i see your view on it, as it being improbable....

Kirk, I think I'd agree with you that Cotto would be above Tito if he got those 4 wins. I'm just saying that I don't think he's quite good enough to pull it off, but I hope he does.

Edit: saw your post above. Gotcha.
