When I hear of recent A level LHW's, I think of guys like prime Dariusz, prime Roy, and the like. I can't put the current Tarver or Johnson on that level. Dawson could work himself into that in the future, but how Hopkins moved up and handled Tarver and Calzaghe's subsequent fight with Hopkins showed the level LHW has actually been fighting at in recent years; I can't say any of 'em were A level so much as the best of what's available.

The young guns like Dawson, Shumenov, Pascal etc., need to continue stepping up and usurping the old guard. I hope one of them takes out Erdei soon and hopefully completes the transition from the last era of Lhw's.

    Yeah, I actually agree.

I just find it hypocritical when some guys on here only say this because it is Calzaghe and would defend it if Toney did the same.

I persoanlly didn't think he should have taunted Roy - no need. But taunting Hopkins was fine - Hopkins had it coming 100%.

whoever those guys are that you're talking about need to examine why they really dislike a fighter or not.

and Hopkins was a completely different set of circumstances, he was being a dickhead all the way up to the fight pretty much. it was his usual psyche out routine, but he took it too far and paid for it with a loss

Calzaghe would have beaten Jones while Jones was in his prime. Jones ran from Michalczewski for years.

    Exactly.

Everybody knows RJJ was well over the hill, even Calzaghe.

For one last fight he could go out on a win against a real name for a **** load of cash.

    Who wouldn't?

Boo hoo. The real blame should be placed on Roy for sticking around long enough to find himself in a fight like that. Roy always used to clown around with his opponents and boxing has a very nasty way of seeing fighters who were once great get what they used to give out to their own previously overmatched opponents. I don't blame Calzaghe for the Jones fight and the way he fought him. ****, if you got a legend in front of you who's basically powerless against your attack you're gonna take it to him. Ask Terry Norris when he fought Sugar Ray Leonard. Maybe the guy will finally learn that it's over. Jones fights again tomorrow so he didn't get the message.

Boxing's a hurt game. If you can't stop the other guy from embarassing you then you need to do something about it, retire on you stool, or just walk into the machine gun fire and take the antics that come with it. If you don't want to be embarassed then be smart like Lennox Lewis or Joe Calzaghe and get out before you start the downward slide that comes with getting older.

I didn't think he came off as a dick. He has the mentality of a winner/elite athlete. They all have a bit of an ego at that level but so what?

The man carried Jones for 12 rounds. He spent more time acting like a clown than throwing punches. I'm not one for showboating but I can see why some people believe it has it's place. Calzaghe doing what he did to a shot to **** Jones is no worse than what Jones himself did to many fighters who were never even world class.

As regards to Pavlik. All he had to do was beat Hopkins and he would of got his fight with Calzaghe. That was his reason for moving up to LH. It looked so simple didn't it. Just beat the **** out of a 43 year old man that was gassed and confused against an overated eurobum that had a decent workrate but not 1/4 of the punching power of the beast that Pavlik was. Hell, a lot of people didn't even give the decision to Calzaghe. Pavlik was going to show everyone how a you deal with old men who dont belong in the ring anymore. Didn't wuite work out for him though did it. What with his 107 degree temperature and swollen elbow.

just his turn to see how it feels

ps j.c was no kid when he fought him
