Calzaghe saying ROy Jones is Washed up (7 months before fight) Vid

There is nothing delusional about it mate.
He fought Roy for one of the biggest paydays of his career.
It was that or fight Pavlic for peanuts. And then have to listen to people say how over rated he was when he took him to school.
He said it was his last fight. And it was going to be a payday fight. It had nothing to do with legacy. Boxers fight for money and worry about legacy later. I cant see why you have a problem with that. What would you have done.?

I met Calzaghe on the dinner circuit a few years ago just after the Lacy win and as much as I love him, he did come across a bit dumb.

Then when the fight is signed he comes out publicly and says he can't understand how people say Jones is shot.

 

It was Hopkins' straight right that changed his mind. That's why Pavlik immediately went back to Middleweighti.

so what,if he wants to slap jones silly for 12 rounds and get paid 5 million in the process,good on him....

 

If Calzaghe had fought Pavlik right after Pavlik blew away Lockett, then

1) that fight would probably have made as much as or more money than Calzaghe vs. Jones.

2) Calzaghe's legacy would have been much better. Back then, people regarded Pavlik as a P4P top fighter, and he was undefeated. He would have got all the credit B-Hop did for beating Pavlik and probably more.

Calzaghe DID care about his legacy. If he were just money-hungry, he would still be fighting and he wouldn't give a damn about his 0.

 

I had a night out with him before the kessler fight. And was told that he would have 2 more big money fights after Kessler and that was it. He said nothing about legacy. Infact the word pension was used.
If he honestly thought Pavlic would have earned him more money he would have fought him.
But your free to believe what you like.
