Just finished watching Tyson the documentary directed by James Toback. It was probably one of the best Tyson Documentary because of the rawness and how real Tyson was. He really exposed himself and spoke openly. I understand a piece of his world and started to feel sorry for him. I was surprised how eloquent he was and how descriptive and creative his mind and words were. The documentary was put together real well. Worth watching. Memorable quotes: Best quote from Custamato: If he(Mike) weren't here I wouldn't be alive today. The fact that he is here and doing what he is doing and doing as well as he is doing and improving as he has, gives me the motivation and interest to stay alive. Cause I believe a person dies when the person no longer wants to live.... But I have a reason with Mike and he gives me the motivation, and I will stay alive and I will watch him become a success and I will not leave until that happens Best advise Mike got: We always put emphasis of my speed and combinations. He [Custamato] always told me that speed kills... speed is what kills. Mike: My mission is to go and to destroy and not let anything get involved i'll get punch'd and get hurt, but i refuse to be hurt, i can't lose, i refuse to lose Mike: I knew I would ****ing kill somebody if they ****ed with me Most Cocky Mike Quote: How dare he challenge me with such primitive skills, their just as good as dead. Mike: As closer I get to the ring the more confident I get. Once I'm in the ring I am God. No one can beat me. Mike:[before the fight starts] I walk around the ring, but i never take my eyes off my opponent. Even when he is ready and pumped and ready to get his hands on me as well. I keep my eyes on him, keep my eyes on him, keep my eyes on him. Then once I see a kink in his armor, then boom, one of eyes may move then I know I have him.... I have already broken his spirit. Quote from Mike in prison: My insanity is my only sanity. Funniest Mike quote: I'll **** you til you'll love me. Quote from Mike after fight with Lewis: These pigeons live together for 10-15 years. But when you throw food down they'll kill each other for it. Its the same with fighters. We love and respect each other but we're like mercenaries we need that money. Custamato Headstone Engraving: A boy comes to me with a spark of interest I feed the spark and it becomes a flame. I feed the flame and it becomes a fire. I feed the fire and it becomes a roaring blaze. Best classical video moment: Lighting Fast Shadow boxing when he was training under custamato (around 7:15 minute mark of the DVD) Good Luck Mike!
It is fantastic. However, Tyson gives a different story to everyone, what he is thinking one minute will change the next. I do hope that more boxers follow Tysons lead and come out with their own slick documentaries. Nigel Benn for one (although there is quite a lot of stuff about his life on youtube)
my favorite was when tyson was explaining how intimidated and humilated he was as a child and how when he got older and got the confidence that he'd destroy anyone who tried to make him feel that way again or something to that likeing
Yeah cotto was strange picturing tyson with glasses looking after pigeons then turing into what he was when he was 16
It was posted online a few months ago on here and I had the priviledge to watch it all online back then...may still be floating about - do a search on here peoples you may find it!! LHL - whats with the GAY AVATAR???atsch
There's no question it's a first-rate film...I've seen it 3 times over the past year. In many ways it's more of a self-portrait than a documentary.
it's absolutely brilliant to be honest BUT the single best tyson documentary by far is the beyond the glory episode. it was an extra long episode and worth every minute. I think that got even deeper and more honest than the 2009 documentary. just my opinion
Just seen this last night. You really get an indepth feel of Mike's feelings through each significant event in his life and why he has become what he is. Its interesting to see how that after Custamoto's death Mike changed to a hateful person, but really hes just a lost misunderstood young man. Its funny how Ali converted to Islam to find inner peace, but Tyson converted out of spite for God. I liked the movie, but it had its awkard moments whenever Tyson talked about sex. I hope Mike has made his peace with the sport though.
