:nut Vitali at # 6? Now thats the joke of the day! Vitali is nowhere near as good as his brother both in talent and in resume. its not even close. Vitali is also nowhere near a top 10 heavyweight of all time.

As for Larry Holmes and Jack Johnson over Joe Louis

And another thing, as if it's Ali/Louis for the 1/2 lock.

If you rank the heavyweights on career acomplishments then it is Ali/Louis for the 1/2 lock.

If you sincerely believed that Bruce Seldon would have beaten them both on the same night then you would not have to rank them 1 and 2 head to head.

Like I said, my ratings of these guys is not honestly about accomplishments or title defenses, etc...... I rate Vitali Klit so high because I believe that in a time machine he stacks up very well and is indeed a damn good fighter who uses his size to his advantage...... Styles make fights..... We here ALL know that, as well........ Stylewise, I can picture V.K. beating the ever lovin' spit outta many former ex-title holders dating back to 1887........ Certain fighters are just bread with what it takes to win...... Peace......

I dont think that is certain that htey are 1.2 on accomplishments. I think it is more that they are the "Consensus" 1.2. I say that there are quite a few others who could also rate 1.2 resonably.

Could somebody please tell me why people still keep putting Marciano on every top heavyweight list when he wasnt a heavyweight and the only heavyweight with any skill he ever beat was a washed up Joe Louis? Are you people ******ed? Wait stupid question because we all know that answer.

He was a heavyweight. Any pro boxer over 175 pounds was a heavyweight when he competed.

    Well Seldon beats everyone anyway.

What aboot these accomplishments ay? Jack Johnson does not necessarily bow down to 25 defences and Liston and Foreman. He had far more fights than them for a start.

Remember that louis was 1:1 with schmelling , still have an unfinished business .. but some decided that winner is the last to win.
i will also say that louis' level of oposition was low throughout most of his career.
Although both took on all comers , weird that the thread poster takes it for granted that they are 2 of the best 3 for sure.
What makes them better or even equal to marciano ?
marciano was much smaller than louis and beat him and 2 of the men who managed to beat him (just remember that louis' decision victory over walcott is a bad decision). also marciano was never stopped despite being smaller than his oposition - unlike both louis and ali.
i'd say that in any list that louis is in , marciano should be also and ranked higher.
i think that tyson would have at least floored louis , a prime tua would have gotten rid of him quickly (see: ruiz, moorer, wilson) , a not so prime tua or a prime toney would have slowly abusing him while shortenning his career and damaging his health (see: maskaev, izon, oquendo in tua's case or jirov, holyfield, guinn in toney's case) . with holyfield it would have been even but i believe that holyfield was stronger and tougher (imagine how will louis fare 3 times against bowe and 2 times against lewis or against exactly all of evander's oposition - i don't see him doing better).

I fancy that if ring magazine rankings had existed throughout Jack Johnsons career then his number of fights against top 10 fighters (and hence his opposition) would have been comparable to that of Louis or Ali.

What knocks him into third place for me is his failure to defend his title against the black dynamite crew.

Can we really justify ranking him ahead of Louisa and Ali when they met their top challengers?

175 is a light heavyweight no so Marciano should be considered a slightly bigger light heavyweight or a small cruiserweight. Not to mention the best fighters he faced were 40 year old has beens

Marciano's opponents were bigger? No most of his opponents were natural middleweights like Archie Moore and it still took Marciano 9 rounds to ice a 40 year old man. If Foreman's best victories came against a 40 year old Bob Foster, a 40 year Ali, a 40 year old Frazier and 40 year old Ken Norton you people would rip him appart but apparently it is ok for Marciano to fight old men and get praise. Simply amusing

It is OK to fight old men if they are genuinely the best oponents available at the time. Its not like there was a bunch of younger more highly rated contenders that Marciano was not fighting.

Few would dispute that Bernard Hopkins for example was one of the best fighters in the world in his late 30s and early 40s.

Defensive fighters like Hopkins, Moore and Walcott age well and can remain on top of the division up to the age of 40 or so.
