    Overrated. Incredibly protected on his way up to the title, really ridiculously so. Was befuddled by less than top notch fighters... Young, Lyle, even a washed up Ali, later by Savarese, Alex Stewart, Tommy Morrison. A bit one dimensional to say the least. Still cracks the top ten but not a top 5 heavy.

    I think his win over Lyle puts him in top 5. Showed he learnded to think in the ring even when hurt.

    Half of these posts are overrated when he's already underrated on these boards. Completely underrated. From top up to top down. He gets the shaft in H2H because of his weak mentality and broken spirit and game plan change post Ali (Which contributes to his sterotype of having limited chance with slick mover/boxers). He gets overly discredited as being one dimensional and labeled as a simple brute. His wins completely get understated by downplaying the other fighter. His KO streaks, and percentage pre and post comeback are stellar. His resume has good names while being deeper than many other fighters. He knocked out 2 ATG HW in a total of 4 rounds. These fighters arguably went 3/6 with the GOAT. He has some top 90's performances even in losses. At 48 he definitely beat Briggs who troubled Lewis. And most importantly, he was a belt holder in the 2 most dominant eras of all time. Definitely underrated. I rank him #4.

    I rate him 3 or 4, so you tell me.

    His second coming was unique and unprecedented in the HW history, or even the history of the sport.

    To have been champ, retired for ten years and then come back and be champ again at 45....

    That's hard to overrate.

    I have him 7th

    1 Ali
    2 Louis
    3 Johnson
    4 Holmes
    5 Marciano
    6 Frazier
    7 Foreman
    8 Lewis

    Having Big George as high as 4 or 5 is ok with me

    On the other hand, you seem determined to ignore these weaknesses, dismissing his shortcomings as displayed post-Ali. This is what I would say leads to your overating him. Foreman was over-protected on the way up. You basically seem to want to judge him between January 1973 and March 1974 with the comeback tacked on. Why can't I apply what i've learned about his "weak mentality" just because it comes post Ali? It's a steotype to say that he has "limited chances" with slick mover/boxers for a reason...he does, he did. He can be outsmarted, outsped and if we're "allowed" to take the Lyle fight into consideration, I'd suggest he has shown vulnerability to heavy hands, also.

    Of course, he was an excellent fighter, and can't be left out of any top 10 discussion.

    He's a bit underrated in many of these boards. Lots of love for Ali, Marciano, Dempsey, Frazier, Holmes, Holyfield and even Tyson though.

    Can't say I am a fan of his style, but the early incarnation of him was very menacing.

    Same people do it with Tyson. His resume is solid and filled with big named ones. He beat the record to win the HW crown by 8 years. That's a heck of achievement. And yes, you are one of the few who consider him one dimensional.

    Post Ali doesn't expose him as much as you or others think. He can be outsmarted? Only by 1 man. Old Foreman outsmarted you.

    When he got hurt is when it turned into the slugfest. That's when he got mad and him and Lyle took turns dropping eachother.

    Hd 2 Hd at his peak I think he beats
    Marciano
    Dempsey
    Tyson
    Louis
    Holyfield
    Tunney
    Liston
    Lewis
    and many more
    { I just don't these fighters would be able to keep him of them , maybe Liston with his great jab but I favour Foreman}

    The only fighters I think that could of beat him are the movers and guys who had great ring craft
    Holmes {I do favour Foreman to win this though}
    Ali {Ali is the only heavyweight I think would defiantly win against Foreman}
    Jack Johnson {I also favour Foreman in this match up}
