The Diaz-Malignaggi decision aside, we have a much more serious issue to discuss in our sport. Is Golden Boy Promotions good for boxing? Until recently, my answer was yes, I thought they would bring some order to thsi chaos and would ultimately push out Don King and Bob Arum, who I truly feel are two of the people responsible for boxing shortcomings over the past few years. However, now I'm torn. Golden Boy owns Ring Magazine and now essentially owns all key fight dates on HBO, ESPN and Versus. Which means they dictate the locations, the judges, the refs, the guy working the concession stand, etc. What are your thoughts on this topic? Keeping in mind, Golden Boy has a lot of money, and a lot of good fighters. Which if used for evil, could be a dangerous combination.
Everyone used to jump on DKP, but why. There will always be someone to fill that role and GBP may be it.
I guess I was just hoping GBP would right alot of the wrongs in the sport. And they've taken steps in the right direction, at times. But then, some things happen, and you really have to question whether or not one dominant promoter is good for the sport.

they are good for boxing definitely.... they do a good job but we as fans shoudlnt allow **** like this to happen edit: i mean it totally compromises what we watch the sport for... when they take away the actual competition and control the outcome ... at that point what we are watching isn't boxing anymore.... its acting, its NON COMPETITIVE, its fake
Let me ask you this, and I don't know the answer to this, when is the last time a Golden Boy fighter lost a memorable decision? Or "was robbed"? I can't think of any, but it's late and I've had a few drinks.
No. they aren't good for boxing anymore than the rest of these venture capitalist are good for boxing. Politics are politics. Ex boxer or not. oscar is now just a greedy scumbag promoter. I'll also never watch a card held in texas again. Texas and florida are both joke states. With texas being the frontrunner. Why don't they have fights here in albuquerque. We love fights here.
**** GBP and Top Rank! They build up their fighters by cherry-picking the **** out of their cards until their fighters have some hype behind them. Then when any remotely good boxer comes and faces them, these damn promoters pull out all the stops to make sure their fighter comes a way with the decision. I'm glad Maidana beat the **** out of Ortiz and Paulie spoke his mind tonight. That will take a hit out of GBP's pockets.
Sadly, without Goldenboy Promotions, boxing wouldn't be so popular up to this point in light of UFC's rising popularity with the younger generation. Oscar's company is one of the few who can write big money contracts for big fights. No matter how much I dislike Oscar's business tactics, I appreciated tonight's bouts in lieu of the disheartening cancellation of Mayweather vs Marquez during summer break.
