what should ishe smith do now

I thought Ishe won the fight last night, but what are you going to do. I personally think he should try to drop to a lower class, 154 or 147 if possible, he definitely isn't a MW.

 

He should challenge Sergio Mora to a 10 round rematch!

 

He is a good gatekeeper, nothing more.

A journeyman knows how good he is and what his role is. It doesnt make them a bum fighter. Not every boxer can be a champion.

Smith has excellent defensive skills, but he has little power, and his offensive output is just not there. He is athletic though, and he will always be a good test for any high level prospect.

Its possible he might have a hot streak in the future, win 2,3,4 fights in a row or something, and get a chance to fight in a title eliminator, or even be a title challenger.

 

154, and be active.... He should fight atlest one more time this year and keep fighting... He went up in weight against a good puncher who can box and had size advantage.... But it was Ishe who hurt the bigger man.... He needs to go down in weight and keep fighting.... Maybe a Grady Brewer fight perhaps... Guys like that.. At 154, it doesnt take much to break into the top 10 because its weak at the top...

 

Keep making that paper, supporting his fam and being a stepping stone for the elite and a spoiler for those who aren't ready.

 

He should go back down to 154 and continue his career. If there was ever anyone with a sparring partner mentallity it's Ishe. He frustrates the hell out of me cause if he just let his hands go more he could be a very very solid fighter. I actually wish h ewould commit to training and if possible go down to 147 where he was most effective and a killer to the body.

I like the idea of a Grady Brewer fight. Grady stopped his opponent in 2 rounds last night, and now has 8 wins in a row. Last night was suppose to be Grady against Anthony Thompson for the vacant IBO title, but Thompson pulled out a week before the fight, and says he will retire. (It was Grady Brewer who took Thompson's zero via 3rd round KO a few years ago.) Last night Grady fought some guy with an 18-1 record nobody ever heard of, and the IBO would not sanction it. Anyway, Brewer/Smith for the still vacant IBO title sounds great to me.

 

I'm still waiting to hear from Anthony's brother about all that...

Brewer fought Eromosele Albert's brother.... He's a good boxer for the kid fought on short notice... He was undefeated prior to the fight... Thompson probably would have beat Grady.. But yeah, Ishe/Grady.. 2 former Contender alums, would make for a good boxing match....

 

He looked like a pain in the ass to fight last night and it doesn't look like he's going to get hurt with his defense. He can make some OK money and if he wants to work on his offense maybe he can be something a bit more than he already is.

 

Ishe's fight with Jacobs basically went the way it was expected. He gave a young prospect a good fight and had his moments here and there only to lose a close but clear-cut decision. I'm sure that Jacobs' handlers would have preferred that he hadn't gotten hurt along the way but these things happen. Ishe is a good test for a fighter on the way up but that's really all he is at this point. Luckily for him there will always be rising prospects out there to fight and when you consider that these guys are still relatively inexperienced, he can pull off the occasional upset.

 

If Ishe had more offensive he would be an elite fighter sadly He is more defensive minded and do not trow enought punches to win the fights. But is a fighter manage to get Ishe clean and ko him would be and acomplishment, that fighter is very dificult to Ko.

 

We can speculate as to how Ishe would fare if he threw more punches and took a more offensive approach but the truth is that he is what he is. He's not the first fighter that's good enough to make us wonder how he'd do had he just managed to have done a few things different and he certainly won't be the last. His trainer was begging him to open up more and though he did somewhat, you can see that he was fighting his natural tendency to be a defensive fighter. That transition often leads a guy to look uncomfortable and out of his element.

 

I do not believe Thompson would have beat Brewer. Thompson hasn't changed a bit, and Grady is fighting WAY BETTER than he was at the time of their first meeting.

With regard to last nights fight, I said some time back that promoters need to be damn careful about putting thier prospects in with Grady. He's been on a whole different level since The Contender. Brewer now has the luxury of training correctly and with professionals, something he never did prior to the contender.

Glad we agree on Brewer/Smith. It was one of the first things that came to my mind after last nights results.
