Is that Cotto is going to try to come out and totally overwelm manny.... ala the Corley fight. Against Corley, he had a 'knockout crowd' so to speak, at home, and went in there not as vintage cotto, but just going in there trying to overwelm his opponent.... that is not cotto at his best, im afraid if he tries to do that with pac that he may wind up hurt worse then corley. Granted, that was a younger and less experianced cotto.... but i just hope Cotto goes out there and is himself, take it one minute at a time and slowly break pac down.... if he goes out there trying to steamroll him in the biggest fight of his life, us cotto fans may be in for a rough night, along with cotto. That is the only way i really see Pac really winning this fight. That being said.... i still think even should pac hurt cotto early, that cotto will be able to wether the storm, recompose himself, and get back to buisness.... damn i cant wait for this fight.
cotto needs to go back to his roots....a young cotto used to outbox guys right and left in the ring.......he will need to be a "boxer" to beat manny, and he has the tools to do so.... cotto's problem the past 2-3 years is he is too much of an aggressor, and less of a boxer.....i'm afraid that will be his downfall against a "natural brawler" in manny......roach has made manny into a boxer, but he is still a natural brawler......if cotto can make it a technical fight he has a strong chance to beat manny.....
Thats what I think is what is going to happen. For once Cotto will be the bigger guy and when he goes on the promotional tour with Pac he will be constantly standing next to him and being sized up. Cotto will get thoughts of "I cant believe people are picking this little guy over me", try to out muscle him and make the same mistakes as Hatton by looking for that one good punch. He'll readjust when he realizes his mistake by the midrounds by losing the 1st half big but it will be too much to overcome in the 2nd half.
No doubt... Im with you on this one. Wish it was this weekend man. I haven't been this hyped since.. hmmm.. Shane and Cotto or Marg and Shane..
If ever Cotto had that in mind to step into the ring and just try to impose and overwhelm Pac, I think seeing Hatton fall like a log at the hands of Pac put that to rest. I consider Cotto a cerebral and very smart fighter. Disconcern yourself with that notion that Cotto will get wreckless against Pac, Kirk. What I would be concerned about if I were a Cotto fan is the stamina factor.......Cotto imo faded against both Mosley and Margarito, the most highly conditioned fighters he ever faced. Pac is right up there with the best in the sport when it comes to his stamina and conditioning. I give Pacquiao a sizeable edge in conditioning, and it certainly would concern me if the fight were close heading down the stretch and I were rooting for Cotto.
Conditioning is definitely a factor... I think Cotto trains harder then ever (I hope), this is his biggest fight yet.
i hope he doesnt over train.....de la hoya killed himself in training and i also think hatton did to a degree as well....
This is bullcrap about overtraining. If conditioning becomes a factor in the late rounds, it wont be because of overtraining. There is precedence here. Cotto weakened both during the Mosley and Margarito fights, I hardly think its because he overtrained.
No doubt a lot of what happened with Shane and Marg in the later rounds was getting broken down, especially with Marg.. I think Oscar did over train and lost weight wrong obviously, think Hatton was just out fought..
Cotto has nothing to do with DLH or Hatton. Cotto is Cotto. We should depict and discuss his strenghths and weaknesses in analyzing his chances vs Pacquiao.
My main concern is that the fight will end prematurely on cuts due to a clash of heads. Of course I don't want a shitty ending, and especially when it's a big fight that can draw some casual fans. Left-hander versus orthodox, the risk is higher for a bloody clash of heads.
Of course, but boxers have overtrained before... I think Cotto should box, I think he has an advantage there, his jab is strong when he uses it, hook off it when Pac gets in... But if Cotto keeps him outside I dont see how he loses, and when Pac is inside go straight at the body with hooks with his right glued to his jaw...
