I've seen pundits such as Steve Bunce say that Calzaghe's confidence soared after he schooled Lacy.

Did Calzaghe truly believe in his talent before this fight?

Yes. He took the fight didn't he? He said he would beat Lacy soundly too, he knew he would.

in his autobiography he says he hurt his hand before the fight and wanted to pull out because he thought there was no way he could beat Lacy not 100% but his dad convinced him Lacy wasn't all that and so Joe went ahead with the fight

There's various accounts that Calzaghe was considering pulling out the fight.

There's anecdote in his book where he went to a restaurant a few weeks before the fight and downed a bottle of wine 'cos he didn't think he'd go through with the fight, and his dad had to convince he'd beat Lacy easily.

Frank Warren reckons he was the one who talked Joe into going through with it.

On the dvd there is an interview before the fight. Joe says 'its not a 50/50 fight, I'm the better fighter, if I fight my fight I win, simple as that'.

frank warren says joe lacked confidence before a lot of his fights after calzaghe left him and that his hands were not as bad as joe made out, however warren would say that
