how would you promote 118 gold Olympian to get him to the point where he become a megastar in boxing like oscar, pbf or pac. what would you advise his personality to be like and stuff of that nature
I'd put him in a show like big brother mexico, give him over-extravagant ring entrances (preferably him riding a dancing horse on a flying carpet w/ professional grade fireworks crackling in the background), teach him the most awkward boxing stance/style--yet fail to teach him the basics, change his attitude to be the cockiest dick in boxing (constantly challenging middleweights to a duel), then finally give him a baddass nickname like 'iron' or 'sugar'. I'd make sure to keep my bags packed in case he loses though.
If you are referring to the 2-time BW Gold Medallist, well, feed him tough competition televising every single fight, put him on bigtime boxing events, open for the Spanish speaking market, get good sponsors, media connections for free advertisement (articles/TV appearences), a major (co-)promoter to protect interests, call out the elite in the pro division to make noise, focus on the backstory, put the fighter's personality in front, make controversy because people love it, but most of all, make sure the fighter performs with all eyes on the performance.
Promotion? Not so much. I keep him busy. First year fighting every month if possible agains low risk competition. Second year might go to fighting every 2 months depending on the level of competition and how dedicated the kid is. That is when promotions should star making some noise. After about 15 fights. Depending on how the kid do will continue to step up opposition and he shoul get a tittle shot at between 20 or 23 fights. Kid might be at 122lbs by then, may be more.
Find some Irish background and keep him away from Don,seriously though if he has talent it will shine through and the boxing fraternity whether journalist, fan or commentator will see this, the likes of DeLa Hoya are where they are because of training hard work talent and skill..and a good nickname helps !
