Middleweight Tournament Semi Final: Tiger Flowers vs Carlos Monzon

The battle of the unoutpointables.

 

Monzon is too strong for the light punching Flowers he controls the fight at distance and punishes him with right hands..Monzon by U DEC.

 

Monzon rangyness, constant use of the jab and 1-2 and his overall strength controls the fight for him

 

Monzon by a 11th round knockout. He wears down Flowers ala Benvenuti and dispatches him in the 11th with a series of big rights.

 

Flowers was not a light puncher.

He had serious power when he wanted to let go.

 

Monzon points. We must go with our heads truly, and say it takes only the greatest to beat Monzon. Flowers is not 1,2,3,4 or 5. Undoubtedly great in his own right, but as is the case, Monzon will figure him out late and be timing him well enough to win a fairly lopsided decision.

 

Monzon on points, he might lose more rounds on course to a decision win than some expect to ever see him doing, i reckon his establishing the jab and outlanding his man would get him the nod.

 

Flowers would come out strong & take most of the early rounds. ut as soon as Monzon warms up he would take control with his strength & establishing his jab. Monzon by UD over 15.

 

Monzon had a tricky time for a while but ends up winning clearly on points.

 

Tiger is getting a bit of a shellacking here and probably a little unfairly.

Interesting that most having being outpointed but surviving. I think that this goes to razor thin decision, unless Monzon knocks him out. Tiger virtually never lost fights on points. He has much faster hands than Monzon and throws much quicker combinations. I think it confuses Monzon and while ordinarily i think that Monzon would produce the knock out, given that the consensus seems to be that Tiger lasts the distance I think he wins the fight by split decision, because of this.
