Examiner.Com just reported that Bob Arum said today that Clevelend Clinic gave Pavlik a clean bill of health, and he will be ready to fight on 12/5/09. The ball is back in Goosen's court, maybe. Examiner.Com is not a reliable source of info, and frankly, neither is Arum.

Even though Williams handled Winky Wright pretty handily, Wright's power seemed like a whole new aspect in boxing to Williams. Pavlik can PUNCH!!!! It will be yet another new aspect for Williams. Get on your bicycle Paul.

It sounds like Pavlik is still several weeks away from being able to train, even with the clean bill of health. Hand surgery two months away from a big fight seems unreasonable to me, but I guess we'll see.

At this point, I'd rather have Mosley/Clottey on 12/5 and let Pavlik/Williams take place the night before the Super Bowl in early February. Let it be a big promotion riding FB's heels.

Actually, some year I think it'd be cool if they had the fight Sunday afternoon. People get together and start drinking around 2-3:00, and a fight at that time would get everyone's attention.

Great news! Lets hope its for real...

Kelly needs to dominate & destroy this guy in order to regain the respect he's lost.

I'm so up in the air about this fight. I wouldn't mind if it doesn't come off b/c in perfect health i don't think P-Will can take Kelly's shots and P-W growing into 154 then 160 would be better for him. But I did feel a lot of excitement when this fight was announced.

Just hope your boy gets better at this point.

Encouraging news but as you've pointed out, it came from a source that can hardly be considered as definitive.

    From Dan Rafael's Weekend Notebook...

    ------------------

    • As for Pavlik-Williams, originally scheduled for Oct. 3 in Atlantic City, N.J., until Pavlik postponed it because of a nagging staph infection in a knuckle on his left hand, Top Rank's Bob Arum said Pavlik is on the mend and he expects the fight to take place Dec. 5 in Atlantic City. "It looks like the infection has been taken out. They're doing blood work, and everything looks good," he told ESPN.com. "This thing would have gone on for years if [the Williams camp] hadn't insisted we get a medical report. They said they needed to see a report so they would know if Kelly would be OK, or they would make other plans, which I can't blame them for." Arum said Pavlik was examined at the Cleveland Clinic. "The doctor really took care of Kelly," Arum said. "They scraped [the knuckle] out, operated and it's healing perfectly. We're very optimistic, and Kelly feels much better. It looks like he can start training, but without hitting. Then he should be able to hit with the left hand in about four weeks."

I doubt this fight will happen in 2009. Pavlik doesn't want that. He doesn't want a guy throwing over 100 punches a round in his life.

Why is it back in Goosen court? Goosen has already agree for Williams to fight Pavlik. And Goosen has stated that he's waiting on the medical papers to see if Pavlik is ready by december 5th. When Arum said "it looks like". <<<<<It doesn't sound like he's really sure.
