History Shows Heavyweights around better around 215 Pounds, Adamek, Haye will do well

I cosign this thread to the fullest. The greatest HW champs never weighed too much over 220lbs.

 

Haye and Adamek arent those guys though.

Tomasz will beat a lot of heavyweights on his fitness and heart alone...but his defesnive skills just arent good enough to stand up to round after round of heavyweight punishment. I dont think he does that well, as much as Id like to see it.

Haye..well, his stamina is very questionable. He will get beat down the road, probably by someone who isnt even that good..Just someone that outlasts him. But Id love to see him do well too...win or lose he is good fun to watch usually.

 

Except for the fact that the 3 H2H best of the last 15-20 years (2 still active) all dwarf their historical counterparts at 240+ and several inches over 6'. The face of the game has changed.

 

Are you sure about that? Lennox Lewis ring a bell? He sure wasnt a 215 lb fighter

Depends on the fighter. Of course they have the potential to do well but only time will tell. Everyone reacts different to gaining weight - some lose intangibles while some guys keep their speed and reflexes and settle in well with not having to cut serious weight. All it takes is one serious bomb and damn near anyone can be out of there, especially at HW

I would like to agree, but we had Lennox Lewis and we have the Klitchkos now. They are big, skilled and quite fast. Adamek and Haye would be underdogs in such fight.

 

Totally agreed. There is a reason for inventing the cruiserweight division. Fighters like Schmeling, Braddock, Patterson, Quarry would be the Adameks of today and do great at cruiser with little chance of beating the Lewis/Klitschko - prototype HW. Fighters in the 6'7 range in past eras simply didn't have the skills, often no amateur background, they were simply strongmen in the ring, similar to Valuev today.

I agree, somewhat. Fighters too north of that generally don't have much athleticism.

I imagine a roman at 400 ad proclaiming that 5'6" is the optimal height for a HW wrestler.

Pure rubbish - although 5'6" was tall in those days.
