Ya too early, Nuumbembe would do a job on him .
It was only half a year ago that Fewkes beat him and imo should have got the decision by a little more than he did(2 points) .

although fewkes is a very skillful boxer.

i hope they don't put him in with a titlist straight away. he should fight someone like magee first to see if he's ready.

True , I do rate Fewkes but he is a novice himself .
The Magee we see nowdays would be a good test for him and it would be ideal to have a fight like that before even thinking of British/Commonwealth title challenges .

I remember this, think it was towards the end of his amateur career.

Khan was badly shaken and dropped by Watson - who is not a big puncher.

What is your basis for Watson not been a big puncher?

Ali is fighting the Ghanaian end of Oct (gomez johansen undercard) watson will wait.

If the basis of craig not being a puncher is boxrec then you're wrong. I saw spark a kid in the first (cant remember his name) and the lad was carried form the ring on a stretcher needing oxygen - non punchers dont typically do that. Lloyd Taylor isnt a knockover job either. I dot think Craig is devastating, but he can dig.

My point was that Khan was dropped heavily by a fighter who was not considered to be a big puncher at the time.

Since he turned pro I think he has only won 3 fights out of 11 by way of KO? In my opinion, to generally be considered even a middle hitter (there are exceptions of course) a fighter would need to win at least 50% of his fights by KO.

As I've explained, this is my opinion and not based on anything to do with Boxrec - this is the only boxing forum I belong to. If I want to check stats I tend to look on British Boxing Net.

I didn't say Watson was a non puncher or that LLoyd Taylor was a pushover.

What I did say was that, in the context of the Khan knockdown, Watson wasn't a big puncher. I assume if i'd used your description -not a "devastating" puncher instead it wouldn't be an issue.

I've seen Watson a few times and he is improving at an hell of a rate. He has found it hard to get going in his eraly fights due to work commitments but looks to be on the right track now hopefully.

He should be given a few more decent fights before being pushed into title contention.

Watson was considered a dangerous puncher as an amateur and scored some good, solid wins in the Lancashire area over the likes of Lee Graves ad theother kid who fought Khan in the first leg of the ABA's. As for pitching at 50% to be considered a puncher ponder these stats Jon Thaxton stopped 3 of his first 12. Chris Okoh 1 of his first 6. Ensley Bingham 2 of his first 11. Pat Mullings 3 of his first 13 and Darren Corbett 3 of his first 9. These guys were frightening punchers.

If you look at my original post I only gave my opinion on the Khan knockdown and not Watsons amateur career as a whole.

I have looked at the stats you have invited me to ponder -

    Jon Thaxton 39 fights active
Chris Okoh 16 fights inactive since 1999
Ensley Bingham 28 fights inactive since 1999
Pat Mullings 30 fights inactive since 2001
Darren Corbett 31 fights inactive since 2004

With the exception of one, all these fighters have approx 30 fights under their belt so may well have proven themselves to be frightening punchers over that time.

Perhaps when I've had the benefit of observing Watson for this number of fights and pro-careers spanning 15 years I will have formed the same opinion of him.

The nearest comparison to Watsons record of 11 fights would be Okoh who has had 16 but he won 6 of his first 11 by KO as opposed to Watsons 3.

I'm not saying fighters should be judged solely on stats (as i've demonstrated) and I do respect your opinion but that doesn't necessarily mean we will agree.
