***Rate Joshua Clottey as a fighter/boxer***

B+ for now, doesnt show much heart on biggest fights in which he could have won cotto/ margarito .. (A) lil heart -workrate would have won those bouts:bbb!!

He'll always be just a few dimensions shy of A territory. In retrospect he'll likely be viewed as "B+" at his peak. Though I'm sure he'll stick around as he declines, and in later stages of his career could fight at well under a B level.

Prety damn good world class fighter, but not quite elite.

 

I say "A" Cause he's a very good fighter. His 2 big fights in which he lost he still made it a real close one. But if Clottey face and beat Mosley, i'll rate Clottey "A+".

 

Clottey actually has a pretty good style to match up with Mosley.

 

I give him an a- to me A+ is only for top 5 pfp . An A is for 10 pfp. And a A- for anyone in the top 15 to 20,I think I have him around 15.Bottom line the fight was as close as a fight gets against cotto(i had cotto by 1 point) and he gave margarito some trouble and he was just about to put a beatdown on zab,beat up corrales(althought he was not a true welter) still somewhat impressive thoug

 

If Joshua Clottey is A+, how do you rate genuine elite fighters?

People overrate Clottey because of his defensive shell. Fighters who use footwork (distance and range) and ring generalship as a defensive ploy generally don't get any credit, whereas if you have something with high novelty value like a shell defense or an ineffective shoulder roll (instead of simply not being in your opponents punching range) you get labeled a defensive genius (this is by no means a reference to Mayweather, who is one of the few fighters who applies both of these techniques incredibly well).

Clottey is at best B+, and will always be limited by his shitty attitude and inability to fight every round for twelve rounds. The mental aspects of boxing are just as important as the physical, and people always overrate those who show great physical gifts but not the mental (fighters like Zab Judah, who gets labeled as an underachiever just because he is a mental midget, despite never beating anyone of note).

That was an awesome combo. An "A" level fighter should have knocked out someone with a combo like that. (IMO, At least score a KD)

That said, It's his workrate or lack there of...
Plus his likeness to stay in the shell to long, Let's see how Mosley deals with the shell. I'm thinking Shane would go all out if he covers up.

 

Your Typical African Fighter (Especially West African...Ike Quartey, Azuma Nelson...etc) with the same style...Tough Defensive "Shell", Stiff-Ass Jab, sharp upper-cuts, AND A SUBPAR WORK-RATE!!!

They will always be remembered for "GIVING AWAY" fights (Not being active enough during championships rounds) then the fights they win.

Because Ike Quartey Gave Aways the De La Hoya and Vargas fights with his INACTIVITY.

Same goes for Clottey against Cotto. I will never understand his decision to lay on the ropes in his "Defensive Shell" and just let Cotto "Bomb Away!". Then Complain about the Decision.

If Clottey had a HIGHER WORK-RATE...Would be UNDEFEATED...PERIOD!!!

With that said....SOLID B+ FIGHTER!!!!
