Good question - standouts are perhaps Meehan, Thunder and, the unlikely at heavyweight, Tony Mundine Snr.

...but it's too late in the workday to think, so I'm sure I've missed someone obvious.

Definately Bugner. Even washed up as he was, he still faced some quality oposition, where the likes of Thunder at his peak was facing washed up names. Thunder himself far exceeded all expectations others had for him, and definately earned his respect.

Meehan?? Perhaps Don King being decapitated would allow Meehan to reach his potential. This guy should have been anything except monopolised.

It also depends on who you consider Australian, and I mean that in a completely non-racist context.

Hungarian born 'Aussie' Joe Bugner came to us via England. Peterson was born in NZ, Thunder in Samoa, and Meehan in Fiji.

Other heavies who fit the time-frame, Dean Waters (England) and Steve Aczel (Hungary), weren't born here either.

Thankfully, you can't get much more Aussie than Tony Mundine!

was offered two fight for tittle 2 months ago but it was two weeks notice and 10 kilos over would have made weight if i was given another two weeks notice and being 4 years out of ring made it hard,
would have actually enjoyed making weight, sorry to burst the bubble for cruiserweights

i like sitting back now watching the merry go round and round and think i was on that ride for a while but got no where
I just wasnt an [a] grade fighter i was still a [d] grade fighter and never got better then that basically thats the truth

training a couple of up and coming pros theyl make a big mark soon training them bernie halls way teaching them to keep the crowd and themselves happy

Good honest answer Cabana. Self assessing yourself is something a lot of people ignore in life. All the best with your up & comers, hope we get a champion out of one.
