They never were gonna be the same weight, BUT he should have made sure he made the damn catchweight.

You're taking this too far. Wlad outweighed Chagaev by 15lbs in his last fight. However, I'd be more inclined to say that it was his skill that beat Chagaev, not his weight. Yes I agree, it was a ***** move by Floyd to come in above the weight that was stipulated, nonetheless, I don't see how 2lbs turns Marquez from a live underdog to having zero chance of winning.

I wouldn't even bother responding to an obvious Floyd hater who would have had a million excuses to hate him whether Floyd made 144 or not.

the response of people (positive/negative) for this missmatch fight will determine the level of class of us boxing fans and i suggest we must act wisely..

floyd can deceive a lot of casual fans and have all their attention but he will never have that most important thing which god knows if he has even a bit of it in himself and for others, respect..:deal

The real tragedy here is that there are four, very good, to great fighters that are going to go at it soon.

Marquez should be fighting Pac, and Floyd should be fighting Cotto.

This reminds me of walking into a salsa club and seeing the little 5'4 mexican dude dancing with a 6'tall white girl. Its just wrong.

Not really they had to do another contract or else Floyd would have been fined big time by the Nevada commision

    "
According to the source, the Marquez camp knew Wednesday night that Mayweather would not make weight because Mayweather's team made overtures to Golden Boy Promotions in an effort to have Marquez agree to change weight on the bout agreements to be filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
However, Marquez's contract had already been filed reading 144 pounds, according to commission executive director Keith Kizer. But Kizer said the bout agreement was retrieved from the commission by Golden Boy Promotions and changed to 147 with Marquez initialing it.
Mayweather's contract with 147 pounds was not filed with the commission until minutes before the weigh-in. Kizer said it was supposed to be filed on Wednesday.
Kizer said the Mayweather camp asked to file it Thursday and he said OK, but that deadline also came and went.
"We were very unhappy with the lateness of Mr. Mayweather's contract," Kizer said.
Kizer said that had the bout agreements not been changed to 147, Mayweather would have faced a fine from the commission in addition to whatever penalty he had agreed to pay Marquez. For being two pounds overweight, Kizer said the penalty would have been 10 percent of his purse, or $1 million. Had he been three pounds over (147 pounds), the figure would have jumped to a 20 percent fine."

You guys need to relax on eze, other then when speaking about Floyd, he is one of the more intelligent boxing fans that visit this site.

He has a point in this argument too, even if it's not what you want to hear.

I'm disappointed Floyd didn't make 144, but it is what it is, and there is nothing any of us can do.

If JMM wins, it will make the upset that much more epic.

    I am disappointed as well.

But it was in the contract that he could make 147 if he wishes he would just pay JMM if he was over.

Note he did not get a 2 hour mandatory chance to lose the weight.

That Schaefer "quote" from Iole isn't even a direct quote.

Dan Rafael from ESPN has a direct quote from Schaefer, with no mention of "147":

But after Friday's weigh-in, Golden Boy CEO

Schaefer would not disclose the dollar figure, but another source with direct knowledge of the contract told ESPN.com that the penalty was $300,000 per pound if either fighter was overweight.

But ok, "welterweight" is open to interpretation, so fukk it, let's forget about Schaefer. Let's hear what
