600k for being 2 pounds overweight justified? and should Cotto do the samething? ... I mean if its a welterweight fight no matter what you weight doesn't matter as long as its over 140 and atleast 147 right? was Mayweather wrong for coming in just under the welterweight limit or should he have came in at the contractual weight ... lets keep in mind that team Marquez had no problem with it at all !! - neither did GBP who agreed to change the contract less than 24 hrs before the fight and before the contract was submitted to the State Athletic Commission. thoughts?? Outside of that ... I think Marquez deserves every penny he can get out of this fight and 600k is an extra incentive to win the fight ... bigger paydays for JuanMa loom .... win or lose !!
Great article win or lose JMM has nice pay days ahead of himself before he retires and trust me he will get that rematch with Pacman he is closer than what he thinks stepping into this fight with Mayweather is proving a lot!!!
At the end of the day Mayweather did nothing wrong. He made the contracted weight of 147. He just had to pay for coming in over 144marquez and his team agreed to this contract so i don't know what all the bitching is about.
It had already been submitted at 144, "However, Marquez's contract had already been filed reading 144 pounds, according to commission executive director Keith Kizer. But Kizer said the bout agreement was retrieved from the commission by Golden Boy Promotions and changed to 147 with Marquez initialing it."
Marquez is getting the short end of the deal, so what he gets 600K. JMM is just falling into a more disadvantaged position. you know GBP is going to go for it, either that or no big fight. Marquez is not going to complain, he's too much of a warrior for that. Should Floyd be praised for this move? not by me, I think it's a punk move.
Floyd did not attempted to make the 144 Money is willing to pay the penalty 600k so is up to Juan's camp to take or leave it If you think Golden Boy was going to take an advantage draining Floyd you are wrong all the catch weigh BS must stop I think Cotto should do the same.
Contracted weight was 144 not 147. As I posted in the other thread about this. He did it on purpose. To gain yet another advantage. If he did loose this fight it would be devastating to his earning potential which is why he is back. Also isn't every fight that isn't a NON TITLE fight a catch weight fight. IE not at exactly 140 or 147 etc but somewhere agreed to by both parties. Also remember back in the day they did not have a 24 hour recoup time so weigh in were allot truer to a fighters real weight class. Which means it is ALLOT easier for today's fighters to cross into other weight divisions. Easily within 20 Lbs. I think they should have forced the issue and demanded for him to loose at least 1 of the 2 lbs OR set a limit on re hydration. I suspect Floyd will come in looking bigger than when he fought DLH.
I feel sorry for JMM, I never wanted this to happen to him.... I agree with you, I think Floyd did not make the effort to make the 144 pacted and it is a shame..... ..... but as you said it.... THE CATCH WEIGH BS MUST STOP...
Exactly what I said. Floyd felt he shoud pay the money instead of risking himself being drained. He most likely got to a point where he felt those last 2 pounds were gonna be too tough and could take something out of him. Smart decision on floyd's part if that is the case. Might as well give JMM the money instead of doing something that hurts his chances of the super huge payday with pacman.
And yes I will be pulling hard for marquez who has been my favorite current fighter for the past 5-6 years
I personally think that Floyd coming in overweight was an incentive for Marquez for taking the fight and putting up such a big risk ... Floyd always says that fighter should be appreciative, but I think in this instance, Floyd is very appreciative of Marquez !!
No, it's not justified. He knew that they had agreed to 144 and that the fight would still go on if he didn't cut all the weight. It's a dick move.
