Dude I am not the only one that saw this coming. When the fight was announced everyone was furious, everyone knew it was a mismatch. The promoters did their thing and sold the fight well so some people were fooled into thinking it would be competitive. but overall the boxing community still knew it was a mismatch. like I said in an earlier post, you could get decent betting odds on mayweather by decision because there was such a heavy flow of bets on mayweather by stoppage. I don't claim to be a know it all. I've been wrong plenty of time but I just don't know how anyone that has watched both of these guys didn't see this coming.
I think the woo is genuine, this judgedredd guy though is a joke. If he is from the u,k i apologise to the forums on behalf of the nation, you shouldnt have to tolerate such clowns.:-( Making my country look bad, shame on you judge:nono
So woo, what are your predictions for other upcoming and potential match ups? Cotto - Pacman Mosely- Clottey Mayweather - Pacman?? Mosely???
I'm not saying marquez doesn't have a good chin. Just that Floyd's is better. He's eaten shots from some helacious punchers and aside from being slightly buzzed by corley has never even reacted to a shot. In the DLH fight, floyd had some tangible advantages. Size - Oscar (athough there is only a 1 inch difference in reach vs 5 inches between FLoyd and Marquez) Power -Oscar Chin - Even Handspeed - Floyd Footspeed- Floyd Age -Floyd as you pointed out in your post I'm sure there are some things I'm leaving out but prior to that fight if you wanted to make an argument for either fighter you could back your argument up with stats (yes I know stats aren't everything) whereas in this fight you have to go to stuff that is really meaningless or unmeasurable like mexican pride or heart (which floyd has plenty of but doesn't get the credit for it)
people seem to forget that this was a tuneup fight.. nobody gave cotto this much hell for fight jennings when he came back after long rest after loss... why does mayweather have to come back after a 2 year layoff and fight a mosley who in his prime turned down mayweather twice for a fight... or a cotto who turned down mayweather for a fight at 140
Cotto - Pacman, hard to call. I think this is a competitve fight. Cotto is bigger but manny is a better fighter IMO (although Cotto is no scrub) and Cotto has shown he can be hut. If I was forced to pick I'd say Cotto Mosley - Clottey has been cancelled. This may be an indicator that Mosley vs Floyd is closer to being made than a lot of us think. Last nights post fight shenanigans may have been the beginning of the promotion Mayweather vs Pacman a mismatch. Floyd beats him easily similar to the way he beat Marquez. Mayweather vs Mosley - Probably FLoyds toughest availabe fight but I'd pick him in a hard fougth decision.
handspeed and footspeed were definitely nullified by the ring size and weight... people seem to forget that the ring was so small and at 154 mayweather had to stand his ground and really show his defensive ability.. even with all that de la hoya only landed a measly 17% of his punches but to the untrained casual fan like most of the ones on here.. he looked like he was making it a great fight
I got no problem with that but call it what it is, a tuneup where floyd did what he was supposed to. Not a great win for the history books. Nobody tried to talk up cotto vs jennings as a historical win and it wasn't promoted as such leading into the fight.
Gotta agree with u here homie...I'll add a few points as well, FLOYD I don't think anyone doubts Floyd's skills...certainly not me...Granted,he is a defence first fighter...in the mould of ATGs like the Whittakers,Benitezs etc...none of whom were crowd favourites either...Simply not exciting enough for the casual fan. However, his skills are undeniable... IMHO,last night was not a good barometer of his abilities...Marquez simply could'nt get Floyd's respect at any time in that fight...which in essence...allowed Floyd to do what he wanted in there...at times, just standing in front of Marquez waiting for him to unload, but not concerned in the least of Marquez's power... Add the fact that...for some reason,Marques has lost the decent precision/speed/intensity he's shown over the last few years..I think the guy is getting ols if you ask..but that's just me..He was simply too slow and static, and had none of the zip he's shown so many times before this fight..but then again, that could be because he's used to come forward type fighter where his counter-punching is most advantageous... Roy Jones was in the same place Floyd is in now a few years back...Up to this day I believe...and I've seen nothing then or now to change my mind...Roy Jones had the ability to KO every fighter he ever met(except maybe Ruiz)..He had the speed, the reflexes and the power to do it....Quite possibly the most physically gifted fighter ever....BUT,the top-notch fights he had around him never happened(don't matter whose fault it was)...Benn,Eubank,Calzaghe,etc..and that hurt his career big-time..You simply just cannot be credited for fights that never happened..regadless of how talented you are.. Truth is...after his lightweight days,Floyd just never went after the big fights...he's breezed thru the divisions without any big signature fight...De Lahoya was shot way before Floyd..and he still took Floyd to the limit.. VERDICT For his legacy....and that's assuming he gives a **** about that sort of thing....he needs to have at least two big ones...any two of the three.Mosley/Cotto/Williams... to be seal it.No two ways about that. Floyd has got the skills to beat any/all of these guys IMO.But if none of the fights happen...he'll always be the hated fighter he is now. PS:I think Cotto is gonna beat Pacman.Simply too big and punches too hard. The only advantage manny has is speed..but even that may not be enogh.Cotto may actually KO Manny.
This is for the Woo. Who would win Marquez vs Jennings ? Also how can you say Cotto and Pac would be close and then say Mayweather will blow Pac out ?
What does that have to do with anything Because I also think Mayweather would blow Cotto out. I am not arguing that floyd is a special fighter, I think we all know that.
Nice post. I agree Floyd does have to fight these fighters and i think he knows this also, but it would be a shame that if these fights didnt materlialse, a minority of boxing fans would not respect his skills as a fighter becasue IMO some of the BS on these boards show a lack of respect (this thread has actually been pretty decent:good). But i guess when you are the best and you do have an undefeated record you have a lot more to lose than the guy challenging you. Thats is why my respect goes out to him becasue everytime he steps in the ring he risks it all, just like his opppnent, but it seems his opponents are always the one recieving the respect (although with the lack of respect being showed to Floyd after the fights, they're basically disrespected his oppnents also). ANyway, we'll see what happens. I for one will be waiting for the Floyd - Pacman fight as i have feeling he's gonna stop Cotto. I'm actually hoping Cotto wins (my favourite fighter right now) but i'm not sure maybe i've been swayed by the pacman hype LOL!
Newguy this isn't about boxing. This is about the hidden ugliness in America. The same ugliness that has these clowns out "protesting" against The President. Not all people are victims to it, but there are quite a few. Depending on the circle, it rears its head in different forms. In this case, boxing. They distort history and facts to come to the conclusion that FMJ is a lesser talent. The constant cut downs and slights turn the athlete into a bitter, angry, and arrogant personality. Because here in America, a "certain type" of athlete better be humble and walk with his head low or else here come the haters. How do they distort this case? Look at the FACTS. FMJ came back after a 21 month layoff. He needed an opponent. OK who? JMM called him out! Perfect for FMJ because it gave him a decent fighter to square up against and it added flavor to the P4P conversation. On the flipside it gave JMM his LARGEST payday to date. (Where were all his "fans" in making previous paydays for the man?) It was a win for all involved. So FMJ accepted the challenge. We all knew it was just a tune up. (Did you clowns talk down on DLH for fighting Two Pounds?) JMM could have come into the fight at ANY weight he felt best prepared at. That is what FMJ did against Oscar De La Hoya. See they ignore the fact that due to style, weight does not matter at all with FMJ. He rarely if ever muscles his opponent. Anyway, FMJ campaigned 80% of his career at lower than 135lbs! Do you think it would have made a difference in this case? If you watched the fight the answer is hell no. It probably would have turned out far worse. Do you clowns think a fight with Mosely would end differently when he was out boxed by Cotto? Do you think a fight with Cotto would end differently when he is so easily hit? Margarito who is a carbon copy of Baldomir? Berto? Clottey? "P4P king" Manny who had his hands full with JMM? The ONLY threat is Paul Williams. That is the reality. No rational analysis matters. They will continue the degradation of the man's accomplishments and act as though somehow, though he dedicated his life to the sport, he owes them something.
These clowns also never mention OPPONENTS pricing themselves out of fights. Every single person they are saying FMJ is "ducking" either priced themselves out or "ducked" FMJ before they knew he was the draw.
