As I was watching the JMM vs FMJ I kept get annoyed when people kept saying that JMM was been outmatched in the skills department. I disagree, I think Mayweather and marquez were on par in terms of skills, its just that mayweather was much faster in terms of speed and reflexes. Marquez could see the punches coming and he could sometimes see openings but his reflexes were just not fast enough to avoid or attach. I was so impress by the skill level displayed in this fight by both fighters, but floyd was too fast, marquez did not lack the skill to beat mayweather he lacked the speed (and a little more power).

I dont think there's any doubt that Mayweather's is more skilled than JMM or any other active boxer for that matter.

Speed helped but Floyd won coz of his skill. Only skills wins fights.

Zab is supposedly faster than Mayweather and he lost by nearly as wide a decision as JMM

Good post. This was never going to be a competitive fight. Mayweather could move his frame around that ring about 4 times the speed of Marquez. It was like watching a mongoose fight a field mouse.

Floyd outclassed Marquez. He outclassed him with skills. Speed is not the only factor in skill. Speed can be attributed at athleticism. Floyd combined his speed, power, defensive brilliance, and ACCURACY to beat Marquez...those are SKILLS.

Mayweather was definately faster, but he was also taller. When someone has a speed advantage and the reach its always gonna be a rough time.

it was skill 1st everything else 2nd and 3rd.mayweather speed was a problem for jmm but jmm was able to handle toe speed of pac very well.its the boxing ability the skill, mixed with the speed that gave jmm fits.speed does not = skill nor does power or size.

jmm was simply outclassed, mayweather had to much everthing for jmm.but instead of just trying to bully him with his size, he showed he could beat him in boxing chess match.he used his skill and speed to beat jmm but all he needed was his skill.

Well, skill is a subjective and non-specific term.

If speed helps you dominate your opponent, then I'd happily throw it in with "skill".
