Does racism still exist? Yes. Do I hate Floyd because he's black? No. Someone stated on here earlier that if Floyd was white, he wouldn't receive this treatment and pointed to Joe Calzaghe as an example. Joe Calzaghe has also been accused (just as Floyd has) of ducking VERY legitimate challengers in his own weight class during his career. His biggest wins are against great fighters, but great fighters that were well past their prime. You wanna know why Joe doesn't get the same treatment Floyd does? The reason is because Joe doesn't go around shooting his mouth off about how he's the greatest of all time. I hate ARROGANCE, whether it's from a black man, a white man, a red man, a yellow man, I don't give a **** what color he is. I admire HUMILITY, which shows respect for those that came before you and paved the way for you to enjoy the success that you do. If you go back and look at the history of boxing, a large majority of its greatest fighters HAVE BEEN BLACK! Sugar Ray Robinson (arguably the greatest of all time), Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, the list goes on and on...when Floyd starts running his mouth about being the best, he's disrespecting this list of FELLOW AFRICAN-AMERICAN FIGHTERS that paved the way for him and took on the kinds of challenges he's avoided throughout his career. That would be like Joe Calzaghe coming out and saying that Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, Jake LaMotta and others were nothing but a bunch of bums compared to him. While Joe may not lack any confidence in his own ability (and sometimes makes that clear), he also doesn't claim to be the best of all time when his resume clearly doesn't reflect it, and hence doesn't disrespect boxing history. So, for your SHORT answer, the reason Floyd receives the hatred he does is nothing more than his big mouth. As a boxer, I respect the hell out of Floyd. Seeing him in the ring is truly a privilege, as someone with his level of talent only comes along once in a great while. We are ALL privileged to witness his skill level, myself included. Even though last night's fight looked like a mismatch, Floyd showed reflexes, ring generalship and intelligence that was truly exceptional. If Floyd's attitude was different, he would have a HUGE fan following. You might ask, "Then how come Muhammad Ali doesn't get the same criticism Floyd does?" While Muhammad Ali DOES get a certain level of criticism for his personality, he does not catch as much flack as Floyd because he TOOK ON ALL COMERS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT HE THOUGHT HE MIGHT LOSE. He took the dangerous fight with Frazier. He took the dangerous fight with Foreman. He didn't back down from a challenge or take the easy road. He lost the first fight with Frazier, but he fought his ass off and people respected him for it as a result. I'm not a Floyd "hater" - I don't go around spreading slander for Mayweather, but I can't defend him against those that do hate him, either.
not hated because he's black. he's hated because he's a phony a fraud a liar a hypocrite. talks **** about the best - Cotto, Margarito, Mosley - but won't fight them. Being a boxing champion is all about proving yourself as the best. fraud has not done this, he has avoided fighting the best, but via his team and politics has aligned himself as an impostor masquerading as the best. he has to face and beat Cotto, Mosley, or Pacquiao. Give up the Bob arum excuses. This is what boxing needs to thrive and shine. Boring mismatches like last night are killing the sport. fraud is killing the sport as we know it. Everyone is hyped up for Super Six 168 tourney but that should be what's going on in EVERY weight class. 147 would be as exciting as the 80s if fraud would just back up his words and get in and fight Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Clottey. as long as he keeps making ***** excuses, then talk **** about the other top welters out the other side of his mouth, he will be hated. Boxing gave phloyd the opportunities to prove himself with Gatti, Oscar and Hatton. Those fights made phloyd a superstar. Now phloyd has to give the same opportunities to Cotto, Mosley and or Pacquiao. They all have earned it. if he won't fight the best he should just retire for real this time.
you have a few points But Ali fought the best he didnt run or "retire" when he had serious challengers there is a huge difference Floyd claims to be the best ali proved he was the best in his division....
You realise that floyd refused to be weighed agin the night of the fight? why!!! you dont know what he gained he could of weighed 10lbs over for all we know...
