If I have not mentioned it already, then Tyson would probably (99% likely in my estimation) win in 1 round. 2 at Max.
And don't forget that Lennox broke his hand in, I believe, the first round, so I don't know how much of a pummeling he could really do onto Mike's head after that.
If Marciano can make it past the first four or five rounds in reasonably good condition, I think he takes it. But that's a huge if.
Out of curiousity what happens if Marciano makes it out the first 4-5 rounds? Based on your wording the premise seems to be that the majority of the first 4-5 rounds are most likely going to be won by Tyson. It seems to be the consensus amongst this thread even by those who pick Rocky. If that is in fact the case what is it that leads you to believe, or anyone for that matter that Marciano trailing on points would all of a sudden start to land more accurate punches, have a better punch resistance and outwork an increasingly confident Mike Tyson who is building up a lead on the scorecard? If were are talking about both fighters at thier best then lasting the distance shouldnt be an issue. Why would Mike all of a sudden crumble just because Marciano (behind on points) is still standing? I'd like to think that my questions are valid but my observation is that this is a match up in which Tyson has a stylistic advantage which is why people seem to concede that he takes the early lead. From what I'm reading the only way Marciano takes this is if Tyson somehow gives up and stops fighting as a result of being discouraged that he hasnt stopped THe ROCK. I can't picture Tyson quitting a fight in which he's ahead. For Tyson to be ahead it means that he's connecting, he's dictating the pace. Usually in a fight when a fighter dictates the pace of a fight the only time the momentum changes is if: A. His opponent adjusts and adopts a slightly different style/approach B. His opponent lands a big punch and puts him on the defensive. C. He runs out of gas. A. Marciano only fights one way. B. Tyson has never lost a fight because of a momentum changing punch C. In his prime he could fight hard for 12 rounds. So please enlighten me what Marciano will do to win this fight. Thank you.
MikeTyson & Rocky Marciano had a few things in common. They were short heavyweights - each stood only five ft.10 inches & always fought taller men, who had superior reach and were often substantially heavier. An opponent's size never seemed a disadvantage toTyson or Marciano. They weren't very artistic boxers, didn't dance or clinch and rarely threw jabs. They were two-fisted power punchers who came to FIGHT. Straight-ahead aggressors, pressure fighters who came in low- stalking, bobbing & weaving, punching under and over defensive jabs , attacking their bigger opponents from all angles with haymaker hooks & uppercuts, always pressing for the knock out-and almost always getting it. Besides both men being the same height ( maybe the two shortest Heavyweight Champs ever ?) both brutal KO punchers, somewhat similar in styles, they fought almost the same number of bouts -Tyson had 50, Marciano had 49. That's about it for similarities between the two men. MikeTyson fought his 50 fights over a twenty year span ,and he was awesome for those first five years. Before his lack of discipline reduced him to even less of a boxer than Buster freakin Douglas. Now he's just a low life thug again Marciano was a self confident man who had old-fashioned Italian manners, spoke softly, & was never rude. He respected boxing, The Heavyweight Crown, acting like a true champion while he held it. He was a gentleman. Rocky packed his 49 wins into eight short years and a legendary career, with each fight growing bigger than the last, untill he cleaned out the division, & retired undefeated. His dream was to be the best ever & he worked very hard at it. He fought off distractions, thought about boxing, and tried to be in the best physical condition possible. Rocky never, never lost his focus on boxing. He allowed himself only two days off after a fight, began training for the next one. He didn't work on the heavy bag or strength training. He felt gifted with such natural strength that when fighting any man, knew he'd always be the predator, his opponent always the prey. He trained endlessly on his weight, balance, footwork & stamina to cut off, run down & trap his opponents for the kill He trained each day till he dropped & added some unorthodox twists, like pushing a heavy log up a steep hill then chasing it back down for three hours a day. (for the legs & back). Hours of throwing punches while chest deep in a dirty pool while wearing oversized ,waterlogged boxing gloves.(for late round hand speed & stamina) They say everyone has a bad day now & then. (Pitchers give up home runs, fielders make errors, accountants make mistakes. Boxers have to lose eventually). Not Rocky. He's 49 & 0. What a war a "Prime" Tyson & The Rock would have had!
If Tyson was not motivated or the figtht goes to the late rounds. I would give the Rock the edge. Unfortunately, I don't see the Rock boxing. So Tyson would KO him or stop him on cuts.
He's right - it was a poor era, although Ezzard Charles might have been a better heavyweight than anyone Tyson ever beat (yes, Holmes is better than Charles, but the older version of Holmes that Tyson beat?)
