it must be really flattering for floyd to sit back and read all these articles by guys who dont have the courage to leave the friendly confines of their keyboard and step in to the ring, who are writing about how floyd can be beaten. im no world class fighter, but i did box for a few years, so i can appreciate world class skill and dedication when i see it. i liked to drink and party to much to be a great fighter, but this is what floyd loves. Say what you will about him personally, but i think it is truly admirable thatr a maN with that much god given skill, still works as hard as he does. He is truly one of a kind, he is fast both hands and feet, he is phenominal shape, and he is p4p the smartest fighter ever. Floyd doesnt care about bravado and machismo and proving he is the toughest guy in the world by going toe to toe with sluggers, he cares about winning. Guess what, thats all hes done is win. Instead of picking him apart and judging his every move lets just enjoy his one of a kind skill, of which the likes we may never see again , while he is still here. He is cursed with being too good, and living in a world filled with haters who dont want to believe someone is unbeatable. IN my oppinion, and i m pretty sure fmj is gonna prove me right, he is unbeatable, i dont care if your paul williams, shane mosley or, manny, floyd will find a way to beat you.

On his day no1 can beat him but NO-ONE is unbeatable. I'm wise enough to know that

There is no question he possesses some great skills, I don't think anyone denies that. It's the opposition he has faced coming up to welter weight and claiming he's the best. You got to beat the best to be the best. Like right now Mosley is the best welter, so he's the one May should of fought if he's going to claim to be the best. that's every ones beef

So you're having a pop at critical thinking? And your alternative is worship? Of course people will discuss how to beat a man who seems unbeatable. There's nothing wrong in that.

You don't need to have boxed to appreciate Floyd's skill - I don't even know why you mentioned that. Just so you could put in a point about how you could have been great if you weren't the life & soul of the party?

Who's saying he's not the real deal? No-one. Some people are pissed off at who he fights, given that he has such skills.

James Slater never boxed, but he writes damn good boxing articles. According to you he should keep his mouth shut unless he has the courage to step into the ring.

I'd argue against this consensus that Mosley's the best Welter. Why? Coz he beat Margarito ? That makes him the best. Didnt Cotto beat Mosley? Cotto was also beating Margarito until he had nothing left in the tank. There is also a question on whether Margarito cheated in that match, there is no question he didnt cheat against Mosley.

Of the Ring top 10 WW's right nw Mosley's beaten only one(Margo). Cotto's beaten 3 (Mosley, Clottey and Quintana)

Mosley's not the man at WW. Just saying so doesnt make you the man. I believe Cotto's the man at WW

good post for the most part but as a fighter you should know theres no such thing as 'unbeatable'. you cant find a way to beat someone if they take your legs away with one shot...

i've always liked a drink too and i trained as hard as anyone during my boxing career - but you have to admire floyd's discipline when it comes to training, and being able to do that for so long.

no matter what you excel at, doing it long enough can make you complacent and it takes someone special to be able to rise above what pulls most people down over time.

i agree with you that people should admire his skills because its very rare to find a fighter with that talent - but people arent 'haters' when floyd lets himself down and takes fights that are clearly not in the best interest for himself or the sport.

ok, fine let's say Cotto is the man. then that's the fighter Mayweather should of fought instead of retiring and saying i'm the best there's nothing else to prove.

    you get the point

We don't know how good he is, or isn't, since he won't fight any serious competition.

Hasn't consistently fought the best comp in a very long time.

    its not that bad.

people just want to see floyd back up everything he says. his resume is as good as most top active fighters.

I agree as a lightweight he did fight the best. but as he made his way to the Welters that all changed. I don't hate Floyd the fighter, it's just that he hasn't fought a real opponent at the welters.

No, its not bad, but it could be FAR better.

He was unbeatable at 130, had some very uninspiring wins over JLC at 135, did next-to-nothing at 140, had a very easy time getting the belt at 147 (Baldomir WAS champ and Judah was an ex-champ...so its hard to knock him too much), got a very controversial win over a very faded/part-time boxer DLH at 154 (which I thought he clearly lost)...KO'd a Hatton who showed he was nothing special at 147, and took on a completely out-matched and much smaller man in JMM (failing to make the catch-weight to boot).

A pretty good resume, for sure, but he also 'retired' rather than take on some of the comp he had managed to avoid to that time.

If he's gonna call himself the GOAT and the best of our generation he needs to do A LOT more.

We'll see what his next move is. I'd expect more of the same, though he's running out of excuses for why he isn't fighting other top WWs.

I, actually, wouldn't mind seeing him fight PacMan next; I think he might, whether Pac wins or loses.

I think most knowledgable boxing fans will admit to Floyd's talents and skill. They're undeniable, like him or not.

However....you talk like you wanna blow the guy or something.

NEWSFLASH!!!! "It's cool to bash on Floyd. He deserves it no matter HOW great he is."

i still dont see how people can call his win over oscar "controversial". i think the crowd made the fight closer than the clean shots did.

for me, thats a perfect fight to watch with the sound turned off.

nobody called oscar 'faded' at the time too, but in hindsight (which is always easier to judge after the pacman fight).

but floyd's definitely a 'bittersweet' fighter.

his skills are undeniable and, like jones, its clear that they are the most complete fighters of the last 25 years or so.
