Indulge me on this Mayweather theory

He's too smart to get drawn into a war. He knows thats not where his strength is. He does what gives himself the best chance of winning.

I think that him and Hopkins should get way more respect than they do because they are so disciplined. They ignore everything else and go for the win. Nomatter what the crowd or media says they stay single minded.

It doesnt matter how ppl view Mayweather at present, thats just
the here and now, which is mean little in the future.

Mayweather needs to put some ATGs on his resume, it doesnt
matter what ppl think of him while he is fighting, what matters is
improving his resume and cementing a legacy, which means putting
Mosely and Pac on his resume, which is very realistic.

Floyd is in a good position, a best case scenario sees him beating both
Mosely and Pac, worse case I think he only beats 1 of them.

I reckon if Floyd lost his '0' off his record, then he would just go about
it by fighting more top fighters - and I think he would still dominate.

 

I just did a thread asking if he'd ever go toe-to-toe now I know he doesn't have to coz he's too bloody good. But if he ends up in the trenches it'd be fascinating to see if he'd just cover up or fire back. And before anyone berates like some idiot did I know that not everyone can be Pac or Gatti etc etc. But a helluva lot of people compare him to SRL and SRL fired back and went toe-to-toe at times.

For me Floyd is one of the greats of the last 30 years and if he fights Pac, Mosley, Williams etc and wins whatever way he'll be a legend of the ring. From a purely selfish point of view I'd love to see him fight his way out of trouble should the unthinkable happen.

 

You have some logic behind what you're saying. I think the majority of his detractors agree that his skills are top notch and possibly the best today. But I feel like with that much talent you should push yourself to the brink. Everyone knows even the best of fighters have their kryptonite,with so many different good fighters out there someone has your number, even if you still win. The problem is that for the last 4 years we have seen legitimate threats in Cotto, Shane, Marg, and Williams.

wait till he's done before trying to figure out where he fits among the already retired.
and to all everyone who try to regard margarito as a legitimate boxer, wake up. the guy belongs behind bars for what he's done. resto did two years for that offense.
if youre trying to pump up mosely as a candidate to fight floyd fine. it's entirely up to floyd who he wants to fight next. but if youre trying to sell me that margarito has the goods, youre barking up the wrong tree.
everyone should know by now that without his cement trick, margarito is nothing but a half witted punching bag. with a record that reflects the fact.
he couldn't beat cotto without mangling the rules, and cotto beat shane head to head.
trying to place margarito along with legitimate fighters is blasphemous.

 

Hatton got Mayweather to fight and Floyd showed he could mix it up if he had to. He was outworking Hatton on the inside quite impressively

 

Do yourself a favor and watch the Mayweather Corley fight. especially at lower weights, Mayweather could brawl with the best of them. People forget how spectacular he was offensively at 140 and below.

I don't think it makes Mayweather a lesser fighter because he refuses to brawl. Why take the chance? He's probably afraid of someone pulling a "Tarver" on him. The only thing Floyd needs to do is pick better opponents.

 

It's almost impossible to get Mayweather to gut it out, he's that good. You can't comdemn a guy for being so good that he can beat people up without actually fighting them.

He completely tooled Ndou when he tried to brawl with him.
