Floyd and the "smaller man" debate...

It just goes to show people fail to now there history just a quick google search of any fighter will bring a list of fighter they so called duck. For example, with Ray Leonard why didn't he give Benitez a rematch, why he ducked Pryor, why wait 8 years to rematch hearns and never talk about a rubbermatch. :verysad:verysad Its never ending criticism.

 

Floyds fight style is just not fan/entertainment freindly. For the boxing purist, he is the ultimate. But Floyd is seeking adoration from the mass fans, the lay public. The public/mass fan wants KO's and brawls and battles. Thats one reason why MMA is so popular-typically always lots of action. Thats why the world loved Tyson even though character wise he was a piece of crap. So now you have this piece of crap character Floyd, who fights defensively and can "outbox" anyone, but wants the fans to love him as if hes Tyson, Ali , or Leonard. Just not going to happen with his style. No matter who he beats unless he changes how he beats them, no one will care about him NOW. They will look back later and reflect upon his greatness. But right now, people want Cotto, Pacmans firepower, Moselys KO's vs Margo--they want entertainment. They dont want a technical display. Sad but true.

 

Why was Gatti so loved by the fans? Its not because he was the greatest boxer. Why has no one really cared about the Klitchkos? The fight this weekend is probably going to be one of the most watched Klitchko fights in the US--why? Because high potential of entertainment due to who is fighting and their fight styles. Floyd will never bring that to any fight simply due to his defensive counter punching style. So he will always be criticized because of the low entertainment value he brings to a boxing match.

I agree his sytle is not entertaining to most and that to me he does carry some fighters, but hes in his 4th division were he doesn't have the luxury of being able to trade shots with fighters like he did in 130 to 135. If Cotto was to move up to his 4th division (168)theres no way I believe he could win the way he does now. Also I think MMA is popular now because its the hip thing to watch, but most fights end up on the ground with men rolling and sitting on each other trying to submit. Which i find very boring and I find it that most MMA fighters have horrible stand up skills, always looking for a take down.

 

People are only watching Floyd now to see who can beat him, not to see who Floyd can beat. His undefeated record is his only draw to the mass public. His boxing skills are only of value to the purists.

Floyd desperately wants the mass fans to love him. You can hear it in the comments he makes about him against the world and him not understanding why everyone loves Pacman when Floyds skills and resume are better. When you have to give reasons why people should love you and respect you as a fighter, you have not earned their respect for one reason or another. In this case as I stated before, I believe the reason is his fight style.

 

one thing is for sure... mosely ducked pbf when he was better equipped physically.. twice!! so why should mayweather rush to fight him now? even though i got a feeling pbf would beat him from one ring post to the next and defensively i think mayweather would make those haymakers that mosely threw at margarito look like he was swatting flys

 

this article is ridiculous. JMM called out mayweather so he took the fight. Floyd hadnt fought in 21 months and came back and annhilated the number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world. He made JMM look like an overrated amateur, thats no slight to JMM, that just shows how truly talented floyd is. this site is filled with haters who have never even been in a fight let alone boxed before. These men box for a living, this is how tthey support their families, they put their lives on the line when they step in to the ring. I think they deserve to earn as much as they can doing so. I f that means fighting a " smaller guy " than so be it. I did not see this huge size difference between floyd and jmm granted floyd was bigger but people are making it seem like jmm was in there with tyson. Floyd outboxed him and outmoved him and he out thought him, rarely did he use his size in that fight, he could have been 20 pounds lighter than jmm and still dominated him. You prolly have a job so think about it like this, if your boss offered you more money to do less work, would you take it, of course you would, boxing is a business, and if floyds the one risking his life he should be rewarded for it. A while ago everyone wanted him to fight pacman, when they thought pac had a chance against him, now after saturday its mosley because everyone realized pac has no chance against him. Lets face it you dont want him to take a challenge you just want him to loose, and guess what its prolly not gonna happen.

Dont get me wrong, Floyd is a great/smart BOXER, but he is very stupid concerning literacy. Like father and uncle, like son.

 

Thats why I forgive Floyd for saying he didnt know anything about the IRS issue. He prolly cant read.
