Yeah Francis, have done that in the past and will continue to do so in the future, but if you can find a venue that actually treats the broadcast with some importance, it makes for a great day out. I watched Pacquiao-Hatton in a pub that was packed solid on 10am Sunday morning, an hour after opening. By the time the main event rolled around the place was heaving and both sets of supporters were pretty vocal in their support. I'll never forget the roar at the end of the first when Hatton went down for the second time, gave me goosebumps. But I've been at the same place watching Dawson-Tarver II and wondering aloud with the other 10 diehards why the **** were we wasting a Sunday sleep-in on this? I've watched fights at home with 3 or 4 mates who know the sport and got a great buzz from that (Marquez-Diaz). I've watched fights that started at 4am with another foolhardy diehard and later wondered why did I just spend $40 on a Klitschko fight. The download option is always there and in truth, its the only way a lot of us can get to see a lot of fights we have no other way of seeing. But for me, watching a big overseas fight, in a packed pub there to see the fight, with cold beers and mates nearby is an experience you have to have every now and then.
If MainEvent don't want the telecast, why doesn't 1HD pick it up then? Being a Sunday here (our time) when the telecast would come through, it appears on face value to be perfect for them, and also for the fact that it wouldn't clash with a major football code (well outside the season). I can't see why 1HD shouldn't grab it. As the earlier post said, Australia's best boxer on a world-stage in Vic, coupled with Australia's top young prospect stepping on to the world stage.
An interesting idea, and I have no idea how much it would cost to pick up the coverage but obviously the carrot of redeeming your initial stake back and more through the carrot of PPV sales makes it more likely to appear on SKY. Ten however did get Klitschko-Thompson awhile ago so obviously it is possible. I suspect the outlay would be too much for the timeslot.
**** i live in a rural area where **** all people care or know about boxing or boxers the clubs no longer show fights since the pokies tax so main event is my only option besides fox sports.:-(
to be honest, Channel BT shows everything so i never stress too much. I was watching the Mayweather Marquez fight Sunday arvo, i just stay away from combat sport websites for half a day, no biggie
Fox can't even be bothered to put in the information (When you press I on the fox remote to find out the details of a program) what fights are on Canvas Classics that night ('An explosive boxing experience for all!!!') They just want out money. Along with 25 dollar copies of a 12 dollar magazine (The Ring) - It's an expensive sport to get into.
Well said, there have abeen quite a few memorable days - hell even leading up to big fight gets me all excited.
No Vic Dec 12? Bucking follox to that. even worse is that I hear UFC will be pushing for pubs and other venues from now on so boxing will be competing directly. I'll watch ufc but not if it starts to replace boxing. if the brain farts could just get their act together and be able to show more than one event a day everyone would be happy (excpet for the prices)
