Thoughts on him as a trainer?

He's got a good stable. The Murray brothers, Macklin, Fehintola and Crolla. The latter have joined recently whereas the Murrays have been with him since the ams I think.

I think he's one of the top trainers in the country. Done a good job with John Murray who's found some consistency in his last few fights - something he lacked earlier in his career.

Macklin in the two fights with Gallagher in his corner has looked a changed fighter. He's really developed and put away two good opponents (Elcock and Asikainen) with ease.

Joe Murray also looked pretty good last night.

He's a fine British trainer and we are sorely lacking in fine British trainers. I went through a spell when I really thought Murray was not going to make it after one or two unspectacular displays and actually tipped Lee Meager to beat him (ouch!), but John and Joe have done the business.
Murray-Thaxton is a very interesting one ahead.

A trainer should be judged on if he helps a fighter fulfill his potential, not if he wins a world title. If Macklin isn't world class then the trainer shouldn't be judged adversely if he falls short in a world title fight

I think he is going along alright ATM, but I'm not going to judge too quickly.

Far too many British trainers have basically become fitness instructors in camp, cheerleaders on fight night - working the guys too hard in the gym rather than on tactics and so on.

Hopefully he will buck the trend.

    Good Trainer
Jefferies should never have left him. I like what he does with his fighters. Doesn't try to impose a set style on them. Just builds on what there good at and keeps them in tip top shape and has sound technical knowlegde.

i would say farnell already is the best coach in Manchester, i also rate oliver harrison. farnell may well go on to be as good as the likes of jimmy tibbs or enzo given the talented lads he trains.learning in a gym goes both ways boxers learn of coaches and coaches learn of boxers imo.

arnie is like honest by wat he says....he says like frankie gavin aint class cause of him its because frankie is a class fighter anyway and its up to arnie to take him to next level and he will have no fighter bigger than his gym thats the reason all the lads in there respect him its like a family they have in there

Farnells correct no fighters bigger than the gym, arnie is a nice guy as well and can have a laugh in the gym at himself and others.

every coach should repect one another, nobodies got a god given right to say there better than another although consistantly winning titles with diffrent boxers indicates the coach must be doing something right.i dont like seeing coaches who think there bigger than the fighter themselves that imo shows a sign of weakness
