This is a stupid thread. A fighter is a fighter.

It's been fairly thoroughly discussed over the past several months that Mexico is in a transition period with its most prominent fighters. The generation of Barrera and Morales is pretty near the end. You have some vestigial types like the Marquez brothers and Vazquez, but they're on their last legs, despite Marquez's gutsy knockout victory over Diaz earlier this year. Margarito looked as though he would grow into the preeminent Mexican fighter for a few years, but we all know how that turned out.

The problem is that there is a gap larger than normal for the likely replacements. While guys like Urbano Antillon, Abner Mares, Saul Alvarez, et al. look like they can be quite good, none of them are on the cusp of being major champions or pound-for-pound mainstays as of now. Fighters like Humberto Soto may have to serve as temporary representatives.

No problem. Mexico will always produce great fighters.

Anyone/any team can have a bad year. Life goes in cycles. Mexico will produce more legends as long as boxing stays popular in their country.
