he is fighting for money these days IMO... like paulie says "its agood way to make money" I did see evander's burger king commercial
It is sad to see Evander at this stage. The man does not know when to quit. One of the greatest warriors but enough is enough but he needs the money to pay for that mansion and his 20 something kids. I saw his taco bell commercial. how much lower can you get?
Evander probably does think he can be HW champ, but he really doesn't have a chance. (Unless he fights Valuev, not in Germany, then he can win an ABC belt)
He can certainly win a belt. Some even thought he edged Valuev, which would have given him one. I am more worried about some damaged journeyman who gets beat up every week and has no medical insurance, than Evander holyfield. Besides, his mind is made up.
He has no shot with the Klitschkos around as neither would even bother to fight him but he did deserve the decision against Valuev.
Perhaps, but that is the case for a lot of fighters who fight for belts. A guy with a fighting shot of winning a belt, Ie. being an elite fighter, should not be called upon to retire. Yes, it would be nice, but he has made up his mind, and I think people need to take a step back and look at this with a little more objectively.
His fight with Valuev was the worst thing that could have happened to Holyfield. Now it was a **** fight where neither man looked good, it was also a close fight, but imo Holyfield edged it, he won by1-2 points in my book. And he would have got the decision if the fight had happened in the US. Now the outcome, him getting robbed, led him to believe he can still beat the big guys, the top guys, and become champ again (after all Valuev was the WBA 'champ'). And he won't stop until he's 'the champ' again (meaning he's getting one of the major belts). Had he got the WBA belt he deserved last december he would have retired a 5-time world HW champ and everybody would have been happy; or had he got beaten up by Valuev he would have seen that his quest is useless and would have retired anyways - but as it stands now, I can only understand all too well why the man is so delusional.
I do think he can win one more title. I don't think he can ever be undisputed champ. He'd beat Valuev for sure.
None of us are gonna change his mind. So let him fight Haye or one of the Klitschkos, and re-enact the Rocky IV scene where Apollo gets killed in the ring by a younger, stronger boxer. I don't want to see him get hurt, but this is the only way he'll learn that he's too far gone to be fighting. Having said all that, it would be really cool to have Holyfield be a 5-time HW Champ (and really IS, after beating Valuev).
Evander has been a joke ever since he left CW. Never was a legit HW. His apparent bankruptcy problems (After earning $100m+) just offers another angle at his inferior intelligence. He simply isn't smart enough to see he should have called it quits 5 years ago.
