I agree that Jones Hopkins will be held in much higher regard in the HOF than Joe. Jones is top 25....Hopkins top 40.....Joes scrapes top 100. Jones faced 17 + world champs.....Hopkins 12.....Joe 8.
Hopkins pulled out of the fight with Calzaghe in 2002-03, not Calzaghe. Hopkins was unhappy with the amount of money King was going to take from the fight, Fighting Jones earlier, on the other hand, is a different story.
Yeah right mate. Ottke dodged Calzaghe, that is common knowlege. Calzaghe also tried getting a fight against RJJ when he (RJJ) was in his prime but RJJ's team said that the fight wouldn't be financially viable because Calzaghe wasn't a big enough name in the states.
Your respected for who you fight in your era and In their illustrious careers both Roy Jones Junior and Bernard Hopkins have fought better quality opponents than Joe Calzaghe! While Jones Jnr was making history,Joe was content padding out defences of his WBO belt in the UK, in what was an average Super Middleweight Division at best!!
quote=IrnBruMan;5041804]Jones will always be remembered for: 1. Avoiding Michaelczewski 2. Getting KTFO by Tarver 3. Getting KTFO by Johnson 4. Getting clowned by Calzaghe Hopkins will always be remembered for: 1. Whining about losing to Jermain Taylor 2. Whining about losing to Jermain Taylor again 3. Saying a white boy would never beat him 4. Whining about losing to Joe Calzaghe (the white boy) Calzaghe will be remembered for: 1. Never losing a fight 2. Unifiying SMW 3. Moving up to LHW and in his first fight there beating the #1 LHW in Hopkins Get over it dickhead :deal[/quote] There aren't ten sport fans in the US who would know who the **** is Joe Calzaghe. Joe is a COMPLETE NOBODY. Being Cardiff Ice Rink champ should have gotten him more name recognition huh?
I respect all three. Hopkins more so than the other two. Jones was often as guilty as Calzaghe for fighting weak opponents. Also, Bika is a good fighter and a world ranked 168lber, he doesn't belong on a list with Tocker Pudwill etc.
agreed. calzaghe only gets ripped more because you cant get the biggest fights befitting your talent if you're not willing to court network backing and international audiences. but it's his own fault for letting warren lead him on at the end of the day. 3 outstanding fighters though.
Ok...Check this out Joe Calzaghe fans. As I mentioned. What Bothers me the most about Calzaghe...Is that After won his 168lbs Tiltle in 1997. He didn't fight Jones nor Hopkins until 11 years later...Nor did he fight anyone of their (Jones & Hopkins) caliber. From 1997 to Calzaghe retired, do you know or even remember HOW MANY B+ to A- FIGHTERS there were from 168lbs and 175lbs. There were several fighters that Calzaghe didn't even need to leave the Continent to fight. Clinton Woods, Authur Abraham, & Carl Froch. Not to mention the number of QUALITY FIGHTERS IN NORTH AMERICA. Winky Wright Montell Griffin Virgil Hill William Joppy Glen Johnson Jermaine Taylor Edison Miranda Allan Green Chad Dawson Andre Ward Andre Direll Tavoris Cloud Lucian Bute Librade Andrade Yet Joe Calzaghe from 1997 to his retirement chose to fight the likes of: Bronko Sobot, Rick Thornberry, David Starie, Richie Woodhall, Will Mcintyre, Tocker Pudwill, Mger Mkrtchyan, Kabary Salem and of course, how could I forget Peter Manfredo Jr. And Calzaghe Fans thinks he's an ATG???? Ok...Please UPS, FedEx, DHL me some of that Pure, Un-cut Home-grown Sh!t you guy are smoking "Accross the Pond"!!! IT MUST BE THA' BOMB!!!!
AS much as I like Hopkins I must say that no matter who they did or didn't fight before, the thing is Calzaghe beat both of them... yes both!!! Not on their prime?= very weak argument since Calzaghe wasn't in his either! Calzaghe ducked who??= another weak argument since it's widely known RJJ is the king of ducking himself, followed closely by his alumni FMJ (same money/businesswise excuses)....and as somebody stated above Hops/Calzaghe was going to happen somewhere around '02-'03 but HOPS "didn't like" the money in it! THE FACT STILL REMAINS, and nobody can change it: Calzaghe 1, Hopkins 0 Calzaghe 1, Jones 0.0 :good BTW, I'm not a Calzaghe fan or a Jones/Hops hater, but this place is full of sore losers! Get the f**k over it!!!!!
Look here is how it is. Boxing is a black sport. That is why i will never ever respect a white boxer. I can respect a white person in general (since i am one myself)but not as a boxer. It doesnt matter how good he is. Or rather how good he seems to be. If a white person wins in boxing it must be because he cheated in some way. No white person is supposed to be good at boxing. If a white person dominates a particular weight class it means that that weight class is no good. (and corruption is involved at some level) it will become good again when a black man starts to dominate. That is the way nature works. That is the wisdom of history and philosophy. This truth is obvious to any honest person. Roy jones was 3 years older than calzaghe when he lost to him. Never forget that. And hopkins was miles away from his prime. Miles.people will say that he later beat a 26 year old kelly pavlik. So he couldnt be that far away from his prime.dont let that fight fool you. In that fight hopkins biorythms set him back in time temporarily. Only for the time being he grew young. This is a scientific phenomena observed in some individuals. That after of time of being relatively old they can then enter a dimension of time where they revert back to youth. But only for a time being. Hopkins lost to calzaghe when hopkins was old. Look how winded he was in the later rounds. Some misguided individuals will say that is because of calzaghes workrate. Any professor that studies the wisdom of history and philsophy will know that that is hogwash. Hopkins lost to calzaghe because he hopkins was old. And hopkins defeated pavlik because he hopkins entered a dimension of temporary youth!!!
OK...The Point of MY THREAD is saying that JONES and HOPKINS Are and Will be MORE RESPECTED than Calzaghe. Solely based on their Body of work before calzaghe...And what they will continue to due after Calzaghe. Hopkins immediately went after Pavlik and Joned Recently had a tentative deal with Froch but after his win over Taylor, he chose to Participate in the SUPER 6. And IMO Calzaghe never tested himself after winning his title in 1997. Because there were Plenty of SOLID fighters from 1997 to his retirement that could have either solidified is place in history...or EXPOSED HIM. I never said anything about RACE NOR CULTURE. And if you chose to bring RACE AND CULTURE into the Arguement...I am quite sure it can be done TASTEFULLY. But if your jsut doing it to Practice your Amateur Comedy Sketch routines...I would appreciate if you do it "IN YOUR OWN THREADS". Thank you.
