Juan Diaz is the one who sells tickets, not Paulie. Juan Diaz is the one that has made a name for himself by beating the likes of J. Miguel Cotto, Acelino Freitas, Michael Katsidis, Julio Diaz.

He is the one that has the style that will make people tune in.

So he had ONE lackluster fight against Mr. Snooze fest Malignaggi, big deal, he's still the ticket seller, not Paulie.

 

Paulie was willing to fight diaz anywhere except Texas.....but its team diaz that doesnt want it......there 2 reasons is money and weight....

HBO was already pushing diaz his last couple of fights....hell, they were running promos of juan during entourage on HBO....now this kid turns down a re-match that HBO wanted, and even his own promoter approved of the contract of 140, the money split, and it would take place in chicago...

I don't get why diaz team would want a catchweight? Currently he is ranked number 5 or 6 by the RING mag. at 140....just man up and fight at the weight you are ranked at....

and diaz is not going to get a big money fight anytime soon......paulie is a former 140 world champ, and is a credible name to any contender at 140....he can go on with or without juan diaz....what has juan diaz done at 140? no world title guy at that weight will fight him...he should just fight paulie in chicago in december...

 

It's unfortunate that Paulie beat Juan the first time and is still the one who has to pander to him. Boxing is bull****. You can call Paulie what you want and say Juan is a warrior but look at who actually has the balls here.

Malignaggi schooled Diaz in the first fight. Won by at least 4 rounds on my card.

It's the shady side of boxing. He should forget about Diaz, who will get further exposed sooner rather than later and HBO will leave him on the scrapheap.

 

what short money are they talking about? I'm sure that diaz got the bigger share in their last fight and I doubt they would offer pauli a bigger share now.

 

First of all...that Cotto you mentioned is not in the top 100...
He ROBBED Katsidis in Houston...
he Lost by a wider margin than the judges gave him in against Marquez....
And he lost to Nate Campbell

Now- Where does Diaz draw outside of Houston? Who knows?! He hasn't filled a ticket ANYWHERE else of note.
Weather or not you like his style in the ring, you can't deny he gets a lot of attention. Boxing as a WHOLE is behind this rematch! That alone should be enough to fill any gate. In New York he is one of the biggest current draws! They could have more in attendance for the rematch than they did for the first one in Texas!

Juan and Goldenboy know what is happening. They are walking into a war they cannot win against Malignaggi... they know that they will likely lose and in doing so lose favor in their future negotiations. That being said, they are trying to make it too difficult for the fight to happen. This fight may still happen they just want to make the loss more worthwhile for Diaz. They also probably expect Malignaggi to swallow the money hit because he has done that his whole career.

I'm sure venue can be worked out if Diaz got the lion's share which imo he deserves.....

....as Shaefer stated, the only controversy really was the one scorecard with a wide score for Diaz...had that scorecard been more reflective of a narrow points win for Diaz, I dont believe there's much controversy here.

I scored the fight for Diaz by a point, he was the winner, so I see no reason why Diaz should take an even split when he's the fighter that draws more than Malignaggi.

I say 60/40 in favor of Diaz sounds fair.

Well Juan and his team obviously felt Paulie was a threat to his career. Didnt want to take the risk.
