    I think the satellite numbers are from the DirectTv and Dish network subscribers and the cable numbers are from the Comcast subscribers.

    THIS IS STUPID! THIS IS THE 1ST TIME A FIGHTER HAS EVER DONE A MILLION BUYS AND NOW ITS TALK ON ESB ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY SPENT...

    GET OVER IT PEOPLE...FLOYD CAN SELL..END OF STORY...LOOK AT OSCAR, JMM, AND HATTON PPV FIGHTS...THAN GO LOOK AT THE NUMBERS THEY DO WITH FLOYD...AGAIN I REST MY CASE...

    I THINK FANS SHOULD JUSS ACCEPT THAT FLOYD IS A DRAW...EVEN THE FANS WHO HATE HIM ONLY PROVE THEIR HATERS BY CONTINUOUSLY DISSING HIS FACTUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS!:deal

    That's what I'm telling these guys... It's publicly reported that HBO and GBP spent $20 million for promotions and marketing of this bout alone... That's a huge marketing cost for a boxing fight... But I'm sure that HBO/GBP really spent $20 million since Floyd-JMM joke tuneup mismatch is very difficult to sell... The ticket sales were low and eventually did not sell out the MGM Grand... Some tickets were given away just to make the venue look fully occupied...

    GBP/HBO did all the marketing tricks to fool the people into buying the PPV of the Floyd-JMM joke tuneup mismatch fight... Now some people were asking for refund...

    I think too that $20 million promotional/marketing expenses did not include yet the boxers purses which could total to about $13 million...

    link --> Floyd-JMM mismatch "megafight" spent $20 million on fight promotions alone

    32 million or 50 million, that is like 6 months for the UFC. Only good numbers the UFC got was for UFC100 and I'd bet it was about half that.

    If you make more money than you spend that you have profited. Everyone profited, ergo, the fight was a success. Expect to see all big fights promoted this way because, as was mentioned in the articles you quoted, boxing is losing viewership and more and better marketing is one of the ways to get that back. This wasn't about one fight, it was about finding a template to make boxing profitable and popular again. And if the performance of this fight was any indication they had at least some success.

    But just so we're clear, if they spend the same amount of money promoting any future fights, it's because the fight is a mismatch, correct? I'd like this on record.

    The people who criticise Floyd on here always talk about him being a cherry picker only looking for the most money.

    Then some of the same people then say he doesnt earn and sell enough.

    Then when he does earn and sell loads they find ways to discredit the factual numbers and the way in which he earned.

    So called boxing fans hey............so sad. No wonder promoters dont give a damn about what fans say. Half dont know which way is up.

    And all those who were saying boycott this fight and then went and bought it only to complain that it was boring and you deserve yopur money back I'm speaking directly to you fools.

    Your confusing revenue and earning.

    The 50 million is earning. That is how much the fight earned. To get the revenue you subtract the cost.

    Revenue = earning - cost.

    I predicted Floyd-JMM as a joke tuneup mismatch fight and it came out as one...

    I believed the rumors on slow ticket sales and the fight didn't sell out the venue...

    I expected a 500k to 600k PPV and I readily admitted that I'm mistaken here when it was announced it did 1M PPV buys...

    Where did I got owned??:huh My prediction on the actual fight is more important than ticket/PPV sales expectations...:hi:

    You're 100% wrong. Trust me, I actually took a few accounting classes in college. Revenue is the total amount taken in from sales. Net income = Revenue - Cost. Look it up if you don't believe me. There's no way in hell any newspaper knows the exact cost involved in this fight. As a result, they can only report Revenue figures, not net income figures.

    ok. ok. to settle your arguments here. this is how it works guys.

    revenues=total proceeds from sales.

    cost= cost of sales/cost of goods.

    revenue-cost=gross profit.

    gross profit-operating expense= net income before tax. (NIBT)

    NIBT-(NIBTxtax rate say 30%)= net income.

    discussion closed. so just please input the figures as reported.

    assume.

    32.5m + 7m.- revenue from ppv+ticket sales.
    -20m - cost of goods/cost of promotions.
    19.5m - gross profit
    - -operating expenses
    xxxxxxx=Net income before tax.
    - (NIBTxtax rate)=total tax due
    xxxxxxx=net income

    Does anyone know or have a source on how many tickets were sold at the movie theaters?
