Where do people stand on the Morales vs Pacquiao II weight issue?

    Absolutely. Morales was not a shot fighter, shot fighters aren't competitive at championship level - but he was most certainly shopworn, faded, whichever term you prefer to use. He wasn't the Erik Morales that went undefeated as a Super Bantamweight, and who went 12 brutal rounds with Barrera in 2000's fight of the year. We can agree on that, I'm sure.

    I think Raheem is B level at best. He hasn't done anything outside of beating Erik Morales, even the likes of Funeka, who I thought looked pedestrian against Campbell, got the better of him. Rocky Jaurez has made a career out of falling short against the very best, getting outclassed by Marquez, only he holds a win over Raheem. He was losing the fight up until scoring a stoppage though, it should be noted. Raheem is not and never was a great fighter.

    Barrera wasn't blown away. This might sound like I'm clutching at straws. My initial point was that Morales never gets blown away, as in never gets stopped...period. He was blown out in the early rounds against Pacquiao, and that coupled with the fact he was advancing in age, been battling wars for a decade, and having well documented issues with weight - all indicate to me that Morales was past his best. I don't think it should or can be disputed, actually. Morales was not the same fighter he once was. It was gradual thing.

    Pacquoao is indeed a special fighter, but do I believe he's ever been good enough to blow out a peak Morales at 122lbs? Absolutely not.

    Morales dominated tough rugged fighters with zero defence up at Featherweight; Hernandez, Chavez, and Ayala are all a far cry away from beating a prime Barrera. The argument can be made that Morales deserved the nod in his fight at Featherweight with Barrera - I had it a draw, though. It was a close competitive equation, much like their first fight.

    Morales was blowing everybody away not named Barrera down at 122lbs. He unified the division, had his best win there (in my opinion), and was undefeated. He has to be credited as being at his best as a Super Bantamweight for those reasons. He wouldn't even make it in the top 10 Featherweights ever, whereas he's surely in the top 3 at 122lbs.

    Yo...you think Ali looked pedestrian against Nate? Ali was winning that fight...dominating that fight for the most part. Ali is the truth brah. I think he's going to be better when we see him next.. He'll beat Joan withou a doubt.

    Hmmm... absolute prime is an overstatement. more like incomplete in terms of skill but is on physical prime.

    Morales looked bad on the scales, but he showed up to fight in the rematch. The Morales that fought Pac that night would of been able to beat anyone else in the division at the time.

    BTW, Morales looked great at the weigh-in for the rubber match and we know how that fight turned out.

    Weigh-ins can sometime tell the tale of whats going to happen on fight night but not always.

    You say' Absolute prime Pac'. That's a real clumsy assessment right there with no thought put into it whatsoever.

    hindsight being 20/20...team pac should have gave him a 132 catchweight. Going up to fight 135 against Burger King Raheem was a mistake but I still contend that THAT fight did NOT make Morales shot overnight.

    Morales was dead even with him until round 6 when Manila Ice landed. After that, Morales was on the verge of being knocked out. That's when he hung on to the ropes seconds after the bell rang.

    People don't give Pac enough credit for knocking down Erik Morales. Shot or not shot, that's still a great feat.

    Well, 1stly, I want to let it be known that even if Roach let Erik come in at 132 lbs (as Morales asked) I still dont think he beats Pac because he was already past the point of no return as far as wear & tear (Pac 1 being his last great effort) but it was a real shitbag move by Roach because he knew Morales had to strip naked to make 130 lbs in their FIRST FIGHT & since then had even come in bloated in a LIGHTWEIGHT fight vs Raheem.

    I think Morales hears the final bell in fight 2 but loses a clear decision if he`s allowed to come in at 132. Thats my honest opinion.

    Ps. making Erik fight Pac at 130 in the THIRD fight is unforgivable IMO, Roach must die for that **** because Morales very nearly ****in did even BEFORE he got in the ring.
