    Hello lads.

Have never posted in here before, but since I've very recently started to get into MMA I thought I would ask for some tips from you more knowledgeable types.

I've been mainly watching the Ultimate Fighter box sets, and a few of the main UFC events as well. I have really enjoyed what I have seen so far. I just want you guys to suggest some fights I should watch in order to educate myself better, and also to give me any helpful tips that may come in handy for a newcomer.......anything at all that might come in handy.

Thanking you in advance for your input.

Many great fights to be seen. Start with the Grace family. In the early days of MMA, nobody had an answer for thier BJJ. Also, look for Pride Fighting Championships on DVD. Some of the best fights ever took place in Pride. Anything with Fedor will be good.

    Holy Christ, that's a lot of fights. You're a legend:D

I've seen Diego Sanchez in the Ultimate Fighter; he looked awesome in that. Is he still the goods?

What about Anderson Silva? I've heard he is one of the top dogs in the UFC; should I check out some of his fights?

And this Fedor, whats the story with him? Is he the best of the bunch? I keep on seeing his name popping up.

    PS: Have printed your list:good

Yes Fedor is the best. Many people can debate that, and do. But the facts are that nobody has ever stopped him. His stand up is very good with KO power, and he is a master on the ground. Trained in Russian Combat Sambo. Very humble man, and NEVER disrespects his oppenents.

Fedor is usually considered the greatest MMA fighter of all time. He has beaten virtually everyone of note, but never entered the UFC. Casual fans usually hold this against him as he has never the UFC belt, but hardcore MMA fans are generally pretty disdainful of the current UFC heavyweight division and say that his PRIDE title was much more meaningful.

Here's a quick highlight for you to get a measurement of his skillset:

    [yt]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/X3WJEyuZsJc&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/X3WJEyuZsJc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/yt]

    Edit: Changed the video

Yeah Diego is still the goods. He's finally fighting for a title in december when he challenges BJ Penn for the lightweight title. That's gonna be a great fight. Might be one of the best fights at lightweight in UFC history. Penn is the favorite but don't underestimate Sanchez. I've got a funny feeling about that one.

Anderson Silva is one of the top 2 best fighters in MMA. You should definately check him out. Watch his UFC fights vs Chris Leben, both fights vs Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson, & Forrest Griffin. He's like an MMA version of a prime Roy Jones Jr. He does everything with ease, he's that good.

Fedor is bascially the best of the best. He's IMO the greatest fighter in MMA history, and to be honest it's his ability to take punishement that's most scary about him. The guy keeps a straight face and never changes expression, he's like a cyborg, and excellent at taking advantage of his opponents mistakes. He can knock you, he can submit you, he can pound you out, he can do it all. I don't think their's a fighter alive right now regardless of any sport that can beat him.

Yup Diego is one of the top Lightweights out there and is challenging the Champion BJ Penn in December for that title. Id suggest you go watch Diegos fights with Nick Diaz, Karo Parysian and Clay Guida they are 3 classic fights in which Diego wins. Id also say watch Diego vs Joe Riggs its a rare brutal KO for Diego.

Anderson Silva is arguablly the best p4p fighter in MMA and without a doubt its best striker. Anderson is the Middleweight Champ and has been for 3 years now and even trashes strong Light Heavyweights watch his UFC bouts vs Chris Leben, Rich Franklin 1, Travis Lutter, Nate Marquardt, Rich Franklin 2, Dan Henderson, James Irvin and Forrest Griffin in that order they are mostly very violent assaults.

Fedor is easily IMO the greatest currently and all time Heavyweight wise and even p4p. The man has no legitmate loss on his record and is so consistently dominant. Watch him vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira both times, Mirko Cro Cop, Gary Goodridge, Fujita, Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski, Kevin Randleman or pretty much anyone he is incredible. BTW he fights November 7th on CBS so look out.

Georges St-Pierre is probably the best fighter in the UFC. He don't destroy people quickly like Silva, but IMO he is facing way better opposition, and dominate them just as bad. He never lost a round minus the TKO of Serra and the sub of Hughes and the first round of Penn. The full first round of Penn vs St-PIerre, is his only round lost. You could make a case about him losing the first round to Koscheck too.
St-Pierre has the best resume of the UFC by far
Alves, Fitch, Penn(2), Hughes(2), Serra, Koscheck, Trigg, Sherk, Parisyan, Miller, Hieron, Spratt

**** that was great. Thanks very much.

Really good handspeed and punch output, and seemed to be great at submissions as well.

I was asking my mate about him, but he was none the wiser. My friend is a black belt in jui jitsu, but he is quite new to MMA (the UFC version) as well. Is this Pride organisation not as well known? I see their fights take place in what looks like a boxing ring. Are their fundamental differences in the respective rules? I remember watching Ultimate Fighter (Team Rampage against Team Griffin) and Dana White seemed to be telling Rampage Jackson that up-kicks are illegal in the UFC, and that he (ie: Rampage) is not in Pride anymore.

    More food for thought.

    Thank you QW.

I seen Koscheck in the Ultimate Warrior. Diego Sanchez seemed to really bash him up. Is he still a contender?
