Tua v Ruiz anyone?

Been there done that - I'd like to see Tua fight somebody else.

Sam Peter would be ideal, still a big name and perfectly suited for Tua to mix it up. You don't have to go looking for Sam Peter.

What I predict we'll get is Kali Meehan.

 

Ruiz, Rahman, Meehan, Peter, Arreola - I'm happy with any of these names, because any of these names mean easy money, rankings stepping stone, and a quick and nasty highlight-reel KO victory for Tua.

He may have changed his style,but his jaw is still the same,and Tua is a better fighter then back then too.

This fight may happen,but the result cant be as quick as the last time can it??

If people truly want to see Tua improve and prepare for one last run at the title, then you wouldn't want Tua waste his time with bums like Rahman and Ruiz. Stop the nonsense.

 

Yes I do. Ruiz is waiting for a Klit. He's top 5. Tua vs Ruiz would be huge. And the winner fights a Klit. Rahman, Arreola, Peter, have all lost to Klit. They won't be fighting a Klit again. So why match Tua with any of them?

For argument sake lets say Tua fights Ruiz and thumps him in one round and takes Ruiz's ranking. Tua then goes on to fight either EPO Klitschko sisters. Do you honestly believe Tua would have enough preparation after a lengthy layoff by thrashing Ruiz in one round to fight the Klitschko's several moths later? C'mon.

 

In a perfect world I would line up a series of fights for Tua before the Klitschko sisters. Fighting Ruiz or Rahman would be a big waste of time. And time is not on Tua's side.

Tua's next fight would against Peters. Peters is going downhill but has fought enough quality opponents and possesses enough power, but not skill, to push Tua yet prepare him for harder punchers. Next would be Dimitrenko. Why? Because Tua needs to get acclimated to big, tall fighters. Tua's semi-final would against the winner of Haye vs Valuev (most likely it would be Haye). Haye can box and has good hand speed, but I don't believe Haye has enough power to hurt of stop Tua. The fight would go rounds (and Tua needs rounds) but ultimately Tua probably would win by 8th round TKO. By this time, rounds and experience, Tua should be ready for either EPO Klitschko sisters.

 

Was lucky enough to be at this fight in Atlantic City in 1996.

I was staying with a mate who's 28th cousin removed, Paul Lockett fought on the undercard.

Unfortunately he went the same way as Ruiz.

The Tua-Ruiz bout was a blowout then and I reckon we would end up with the same result now.

Tua versus Peter or Tua versus Toney! Either one of the two are worthy bouts which would give a good indication of where Tua really is in the world scene.

 

I agree that this would be a great matchup. Ruiz fights scared at the best of times. Against the man who turned him into ass pudding inside 15 seconds... He'd turn his jamming skills up to 11. I'd sit through shitty, boring Ruiz-paced "action" for a round or two just to see how Tua's fitness is after all this time.

 

Meehan would actually be a decent pick for Tua's next opponent imo. Not only is he very beatable but the guy is ranked highly with the WBA - the only alphabelt Tua has a chance of getting at the minute as there is no way he beats either Klitchsko. A win over their #3 ranked guy would line him up for either an immediate shot at the champ, or less likely a fight with Ruiz for the #1 contender status.

I say less likely as there is no way Ruiz will want to risk his precious mandatory status against a guy who knocked him cold in less than 20 seconds. Not even he or his lawyers could work out a way around getting him reinstated as #1 contender if history were to repeat itself...

 

I would most definitely say Tua should leap at the chance for a Meehan fight. Absolutely.

 

My money will be on Ruiz this time. Hugging will be the big difference in this fight making Tua tired and frustrated till the 10th round.
