I've been following his career for some time now, and as of late, I don't

know if Cotto can stand up to Manny Pacman. Many have accused him of

being damaged ever since his fight with Margocheato. I, too, see a

difference in him as of late. He does not go to the body any more like he

use too. He now fights backwards or in a defensive mode. Everybody

knows Miguel can box as well as bang. I hope the old Cotto shows up

against Manny. I think he could be competitive with Manny, but, I would

not be surprised if Manny blows him out either. So, ESB, whatcha think?

Is Miguel damaged goods or what?:think

The reason he has been fighting backwards in some of his recent fights is because he has been fighting bigger guys who can take a punch and who have heart. He hasn't been going to the body in those same fights because these guys actually have some talent and competent trainers who have told them that they need to take away Cotto's left hand to win. Look at Cotto's fights against Jennings and Gomez. Those were two setups without much heart, talent, or a chin. Cotto was able to steamroll those setups with ease. It's not so easy to do that against quality opposition.

Cotto may be a little gun shy since the Margo beating, but his competition has more to do with how he's looked in the ring.

the punishment he took vs margo definitely took something out of him and with the way he's been looking lately, I'd have to say he's not the same Cotto he was up till the margo fight. but i hope I'm wrong

Sorry, I didn't choose either of the poll options. If there was one that said "Too early to tell", then I'd have picked that one.

I just feel that his last 2 performances (Jennings and Clottey) didn't really allow us to see whether his powers have indeed diminished. The Jennings fight was just a confidence builder, and in the Clottey fight he was look very sharp until the cut occured (which hindered his ability to fight).

    No.

But it does look like the cement beating he took might have slowedhim dow na bit.

Even if he losses to Pacquiao it ain't the end of the world.

Whoever thinks Cotto is damaged goods doesn't know enough about him. The Clottey fight is a case of him fighting an opponent ANYONE would look bad fighting. Margarito looked bad fighting him even though he was clearly winning, same goes for Judah who was ALSO doing good despite getting beat on. Clottey is also a very dirty fighter, he used his head against EVERYONE he fights intentionally. He butted Margarito to the point where Margarito stopped and yelled "****!" after the 20th headbutt, same goes for Baldomir, Judah(was cut too), Corrales and everyone else. Cotto was unlucky he got cut early, he never had to deal with something like that before and it happened to him too early so he looked bad even though he won. Cotto fought the same way he always did.

Have the you seen his last 5 opponents? The cream of the WW division. He's faced better compition than anyone. That's why in your eyes he's looked less impressive.

yes! Agreed. He is the same fighter, just tougher competition. He has
tremendous heart and skill to beat Clottey with that nasty cut blinding
    him the whole fight. :good

Nah...he's better than ever as he proved against Josh in his last outing. He looked very good and overcame the size and style advantage Josh held. I thought Miguel would loose....but I was wrong. He impressed me a lot. I still dont think the best Cotto can beat the best PAC but this is boxing and anything can happen.

must bump this thread up after he wins or loses..

Even I think its a negative indicator. Was Pacquiao damaged goods after his first loss or anyone else? I hope Cotto bounces back but not enough to win.
