I think he's retired for good. Before leaving , he wasn't coinsidering Froch to be an interesting challenge..He wasn't interested. But obviously...money could make the difference but maybe the offer is not there yet.

Afterall, throughout his entire career he couldn't find the motivation to leave the UK and fight an elite fighter in his prime. I doubt very much he'll bother getting out of his chair now

 

Joe is a pretty sincere individual.

If he says something, he means it. Or so I am lead to believe, he's retired.
He was a truly spectacular boxer, he should stay retired. :smoke

I'd say he's got a pretty good legacy to rest on. He can sleep at night.

 

He has a better legacy than 99% of people can dream of, I'm sure he won't be taking any notice of what some internet no mark thinks.

And for the original question he will never come back and good luck to him I say.

 

if he did come out of retirement to face the winner of the super six, he will have been close to 3 1/2 years away from the ring. I doubt he would risk his legacy for any amount. plus he's better than anyone involved in the super six without question(he beat the favorite kessler). i would like to see the winner of pavlik/williams eventually move to smw to fight the winner of the tournament or the winner of jones/hopkins

 

Sorry in my opinion NO ONE IS THE GREATEST SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHT OF ALL TIME,I still havent seen a fighter who deserves that title

How can Calzaghe be call the best supermiddleweight of all time without beating none of the best supermiddlweights in his era???

 

20+ defenses, topping his career off with wins over Kessler, B-Hops and Roy Jones.

He's the greatest super middleweight of all times, and it's not even debatable in my mind. Roy Jones and James Toney are the only super middles that compete with him H2H, they would both be favored, but they're less accomplished at that specific weight.

 

Spend most of his career beating bums

No disrespect to Jeff lacy but he was a overhyped bum,whos getting beat by everybody now

No disrespect to Kessler but hes Still unproven,if he loses to Ward he will be exposed and that will do damage to joes legacy,because everyone believes kessler was Calzaghe greatest win

Hopkins was past his prime and still manage to defeat Joe

Joe dominated Roy Jones who is WAY past his prime and I think he shouldve hung them up a long time ago

Doesnt sound like much of a legacy to me to be honest

He's retired, he acknowledged after the Kessler fight that he would have a hard time in a rematch and also said he didn't want to end up like Holyfield getting his head punched in.

 

He had a nice career, but he's old and had a lot of injuries. Too bad he didn't fight some of the big names in his prime, but you can say the same about Floyd Mayweather too. It doesn't seem to bother Floyd much, why would it bother Joe?

Calzaghe has contradicted previous comments he's made e.g. about never fighting Roy Jones because he was well past his prime and appearing on reality tv shows...lol...

 

Sorry but, Calzaghe is incomparable to Floyd. The latter’s resume includes the following:

• Corrales (RIP)
• Gatti
• Oscar (at a higher weight)
• Castillo (twice)
• Judah
• Hatton

Whilst his victory over Castillo was questionable, he still managed to do what great champions do....give him a rematch and beat him convincingly. Something Calzaghe refused to do with a 43 year old Hopkins.

It’s not just his critics here on ESB that question his legacy, many experts do too. The fact is, a guy as talented as Joe should have crossed paths with the likes of Jones, Bernard, Toney and Johnson in their prime. His failure to do so will mean he will always have question marks lingering over his legacy. The same way FLoyd will have questions marks (or worse) if he retires without having faced Mosely and Cotto.
