Man, what a fight Ike vs Tua was. And Ike could crack.

I think Tua definitely has a great Heavyweight chin and in terms of his physique and prowress it's gonna take an ATG puncher AND a great combination puncher to take him out.

For my mind, Foreman would do it (Tua's style is absolutely made for him) and that's a certainty and Kid Dynamite, but I honestly think Louis would too.

Why not? He arguably showed more impressive power on film than either Klitschko did against a common opponent, Byrd.

I'm not saying he's a bigger hitter than either, but that fight was a war and Ike could definitely bang.

Huh? Are you denying that Ibeabuchi could crack, or are you denying that the fight was a non-stop war with both men taking lots of big punches round after round?

I have no problem with that point of view. In many ways, I actually agree with it.

Joe suffered mostly flash knockdowns, and often jumped up without a count or after barely taking a count. As you say, he did face some fierce hitters in his day, most of whom did not trouble him.
That said, Tua displayed some quite terrifying one-punch power at times, notably against Ruiz.
I suppose it depends on your viewpoint regarding Tua's punching power, and Joe's ability to take a single bomb.
Perhaps I was a little harsh on Louis...

I do feel Tua (like many heavyweights) relied on one specific asset in a fight. In this case, that power.
That is all fine and well, but against a well-rounded fighter with several excellent qualities like Louis had, it will be like throwing the dice at the roulette wheel.
Mostly, that fighter relying on one specific asset is out of luck since the odds are stacked against him.
And in this case, they are.

Louis by virtual shut-out unless he hits the deck (in which case that'll probably be an even round).

    And I love Tua.

If we're talking about the Joe Louis that destroyed Baer and Schmeling then it's Joe by mid round stoppage. Tua might hurt Joe early but after taking some brutal quick combos behind arguably the best jab in history Tua would fight a more cautious fight. Joe would also feast on Tua's ample midsection I'm sure and that would disconcert David as well. Tua was quick for a man his size but Joe's fast hands and precise combination punching are a thing to behold. Tua would be surprised if not discouraged at what he would be up against. He would try that's for sure but I see a glassy eyed Tua on the ropes being mercifully saved by the referee somewhere around the 7th.

Not the best matchup for Louis. He's definitely capable of stopping Tua and decisioning him. I really hate this matchup for Joe but obviously I favor him. A lot tougher than most suggest. Personally, I think Tua just might not have enough offensive versatility and arsenal to really finish Joe. But Joe may come off the canvas to win. Joe has to be careful and cautious in this one. And slicing when he can.

I don't think it's overrated to be honest. He's eaten some bombs and been in slug-fests with heavy hitters and shaken them off. Ike Ibeabuchi, Hasim Rahman, Lennox Lewis and of course the legendary Shane Cameron spring to mind.

This is how i see it also. Tua is definitely a dangerous fight for Joe. I am especially worried about comments that Joe often has made in the past which suggest that he often was prepared to take a couple of shots to land his own. I dont think that this is a good idea against David Tua. If Louis leaves to much of an opening, Tua will catch him and do something similar to what Schmelling did.

In sofar as similar fighters go, i think that the closest Joe fought to Tua was Tony Galento and Galento did land some big shots on Joe. I definitely give Tua a better chance than i presume (based on these current posts) the bookmakers have. If the odds were right, i think he would be worth a bit of an upset bet.

Tua was never stopped in his career. Lewis is probably alot harder puncher than Louis and he couldnt do it and Louis would either. Have you seen the Louis vs Tony Galento fight? Galento was a slow, unskilled fighter yet he was able to hurt Louis through out their fight. I was never high on Tua. I think his power is overrated. He knocked out Ruiz a nobody and Olev Maskaev a guy with a glass chin. But i am pretty sure he punches harder than Galento.

If Galento could hurt and knock down Joe Louis then Tua would knock him down and out.

Hasim Rahman isnt a big time puncher. Lennox Lewis just has a glass chin which made Rahman seem like a big puncher. Ibeabuchi only knocked out Chris Byrd a blown up middleweight so we dont really know how big of a puncher he really is. So maybe Tua's chin is overrated but it is a fact Louis could be hurt by fighter who werent big punchers like Billy Conn hurt him.
